i bought one when it first came out, misunderstanding that you HAD to launch the content from your phone. i used it once, hated the experience and it's been in the box ever since.
is the only advantage of this over a firetv or roku stick that you can view web pages?

I have mine in my bedroom, along with a network bluray player and a Pi running OSBC. The Chromecast is the easiest way to watch Netflix, as I can search what I want on the phone or tablet then shoot it to the CC. Same with Youtube. The UI on the blueray player is clunky as shit for both. HBO OD is better on Android than on Fios, so I can catch up on my series that way. If I really want to get funky I've got Kodi running on an older tablet and managed to hack a version of LocalCast to send that to the CC. The connection isn't always great, though, so the Pi/OSBC combo comes into play for that
The one thing I don't care too much for is there really is no easy way to get local content from a NAS or home server onto the CC reliably. LocalCast sort of works, and there are a few other programs that will do, but it's not as straightforward as you'd like. Not having a front end like a Fire Stick or Roku is missed, but it's far from a dead end proposition.

Usually can find a decent stream there. May have foreign subs, but it works. Only way I managed to watch FF7

10. "for alot of the available apps, Netflix, WatchESPN, Google Play" In response to Reply # 6
you can launch your apps for those services and then also choose to watch the stream on your TV via Chromecast.
Or you can pull up Chrome, add the Chromecast extension and 'cast' the website on your browser. You can either cast a regular website or the streaming content.
Casting Netflix and HBO are good experiences - easy to get from choosing the movie to watching and the streaming video quality is really clear. It's a better experience than when I had a tablet connected to a TV using a cable.
