edit: apparently IGN is going to premiere an unannounced platinum game at e3

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/09/e3-2015-unnanounced-platinum-game-coming-to-e3

IGN will premiere gameplay from a new game from the studio that brought us Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising is going to be premiering the gameplay reveal of an unannounced Platinum game during our E3 2015 live show.

Tune into IGN at 3pm PT (6pm EST/10pm GMT) on Tuesday, June 16 for an extended look at gameplay from a new game from the Japanese studio that brought us Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Last year, Platinum released Bayonetta 2 on Wii U. We loved the game, giving it a 9.5 and nominating it for Game of the Year. We also spent time with Platinum's Hideki Kamiya and explored his secret arcade. Platinum also revealed Scalebound during the Microsoft conference during last year's E3

rumors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyRJ5u-L8qw&ab_channel=TheKnow

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/09/dark-souls-3-art-confirms-early-2016-release

The fire spreads. Following previous rumors suggesting the still unannounced Dark Souls 3 would release in 2016, IGN has obtained a Dark Souls 3 promotional image for E3 narrowing the release window.

The unreleased, official art below displays an armored hero covered tattered cloth and flames, as well as the suggested launch frame of "Early 2016."

This follows an earlier rumor that Dark Souls 3 would appear at E3, the video game industry trade show happening June 16-18, 2015, and later launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. When contacted for additional information, publisher Bandai Namco declined to comment.

supposedly miyazaki is directing this one. the screens look like it's using the dark souls engine or the bloodborne engine. as long as it's not using the dark souls 2 engine it should be fine

but it'll be playable at E3 and the newly released mechanics seem good on paper. Alpha-style counters with an emphasis on removing the hard knockdowns/set ups/okizeme so prevalent in SFIV.

seems stuck between the colorfulness of past editions and a grittier look they won't fully commit to. which makes for a halfway claymation effect. other animations seem kind of jerky at times. original cast members didn't get much changed, aesthetic-wise, while Nash looks downright goofy.

Street Fighter is going to be Street Fighter no matter what, but I don't have that "blown away" feeling from first seeing Super Turbo, or Alpha, or New Generation, or IV. I guess I'm just getting old and jaded.

i think this is due to them figuring out how to use advanced lighting techniques more than anything. they are probably still used to 360 and ps3 tech. i'm fairly certain that V will be the debut of their new game engine (MT Framework RIP). as a matter of fact, i'm almost positive that capcom has yet to release a non-remaster title on this new generation of consoles. not counting dead rising 3, of course. that was done by a bunch of canadians anyway. doesn't count. they'll figure the look of the game out. i can't imagine that it will look like it does in the trailers when it's released

and that's Xrd.

And that argument is not bulletproof.

I'll accept it, though.

SFV strikes me as a tasteful blend of the entire franchise to date. SFII's east-meets-westness. Alpha's boldness. SFIII's grit. SFIV's 2.5D.

The result is something uniquely Street Fighter. It's gorgeous.

That said, I fucking hate the ink effects.

-30-
You know it's drama, but it sound real good.

In response to Reply # 10

It's hard to make realistic-looking characters move realistically...like MK for example, the characters are very realistic, but they look silly sometimes in motion because the movements are not realistic. Or like in Madden where the players look realistic, but run like they have a yard stick up their bum.

And I agree that the ink blot style can go...it's tired...I'd rather see Adam West-style BOOMs and POWs at this point.

18. "google is ready to take on twitch with youtube gaming"
In response to Reply # 0

http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/google-announces-youtube-gaming-service/1100-5218/

Remember last summer when everyone was speculating that Google was looking to buy live streaming giant Twitch so that it could be integrated into their YouTube service, but then Amazon bought Twitch instead?

Well, today, YouTube announced their own live streaming app and website, "YouTube Gaming," that will serve as a hub for live streams, archived videos, and community interaction. YouTube Gaming will launch "later this summer," and will be at E3 showing off the platform to attendees.

The service will be organized around over 25,000 unique "game pages," each dedicated to a specific title. Users will be able to add games games of interest to their "collection" in order to receive notifications whenever new content related to that game is available. Users will also be able to follow the channels of individual YouTube creators and some game companies. (Hey Jeff, just go ahead and follow Arc System now.)

The announcement emphasized a commitment to improving YouTube's live streaming experience:

"On top of existing features like high frame rate streaming at 60fps, DVR, and automatically converting your stream into a YouTube video, we’re redesigning our system so that you no longer need to schedule a live event ahead of time. We’re also creating single link you can share for all your streams."

Some of this–the 60fps streams and DVR–is fantastic. The rest is... well... Honestly, it's sort of the bare minimum support necessary for a cohesive live streaming service, so it's good that the company is getting that into place. Hopefully once the foundation is locked down, YouTube Gaming will be able to introduce new features specifically built for broadcasting and archiving game video.

Twitch "welcomed" their new competitor to the field with a social media punch in the arm...

----------

https://twitter.com/Twitch/status/609429653271384065

. @YouTubeGaming Welcome Player 2. Add me on Google+. #kappa

----------

...but I suspect (and hope) that this playful rivalry will exist alongside strong competition that forces both companies to improve the services they're offering consumers. Last year, I interviewed a few folks at Twitch and it seemed like the company had a number of hurdles they needed to clear in order to expand and improve their services, and a strong alternative could help push them to take the necessary leaps. (This interview was before the Amazon acquisition, of course, so it's likely that the larger scale of the retail behemoth offered them some solutions.)

Twitch has had other competitors over the years, like Ustream and Hitbox, but none have really given Twitch a run for its money. YouTube has a few things those other services didn't though: A built in user base, established stars, and a huge backlog of content. Time will tell if that's enough for YouTube Gaming to take on Twitch and become a new destination for live streaming.

==============

great news. competition can only improve streaming for everyone

working doubles downtown for the Men's College World Series every day and not getting home until after midnight each day. It's a sound financial decision but I LOVE watching these press conferences without any knowledge of what I'll be seeing, and it's going to be a struggle avoiding spoilers or updates during my breaks so I can still kind of sort of have that experience.

Hope they show some cool stuff tonight and tomorrow, and hope i can find time for all of it relatively soon.

Prolly gonna be hanging around that area all day, especially if I can catch any pros playing. I've never seen high-level play in person, and I haven't felt that nerd charge of arcade competition in almost 20 years. I'm fucking hype.

Might shoot some bootleg videos on my iPhone and upload them to YouTube if anything interesting happens.

If any indies catch my eye I'll check them out, but SFV is the only major title I'm dying to see in person before it's done.

They look like they worked really hard to add Ryu. The second set of inputs almost seems like overkill, and to add a second final smash is crazy. I am curious to see how the fighting scene reacts to this.

i imagine only a handful of mods will get through since getting games through xbox cert is supposed to be a huge pain and mods are notorious for breaking your install. xbone will probably get mostly character/weapon skins. maybe some quests. likely no graphics upgrades (texture packs) or fan-created patches that fix/alter game mechanics, which is the real draw of mods imo

The One will recognize any 360 discs on the list and download you a copy of the game, but the disc won't spin.

Curious how they get around people just passing 360 discs around? Maybe it won't matter? (If so, good stealth coup on last year's Sony stuff, but I also think they'd have been more explicit about it were that the case.)

What's more interesting to me (and hopefully makes it's way to PS4 by next year) is that digital purchases will transfer over automatically! This was something people kept saying digital consumers last year would be total fools to expect, but if the Live can do it I'd hope PSN can do it as well...

i was already 100% on board but this trailer made me much more excited for it. they are really leaning hard into undirected/ludic/freeform gameplay by giving the player more tools with which to create chaos and solve in-game problems like "how do i destroy this base with a sports car?"

when it came to iOS then copped EU & Declassified but haven't really played them yet because adjusting to the keyboard is a little harder than I thought (console guy) but will make me plop it on now.

I think I'll check some videos of how to play it as well.

Or I may have read that wrong.

If you got it on PC though, XCOM plays great with a controller, and many PC players (myself included) prefer it that way.

In any case, check out Beaglerush's videos on Youtube, one of the best XCOM players around. His more recent videos might be of a modded game with different rules, but his general playstyle is what to watch...or you could dig deeper into his channel to look for the version of XCOM you're currently playing.

I'm probably gonna actually have a PC that can run this by the time it comes out but I sure as hell don't want to play it with a keyboard and mouse.

xcom: enemy unknown on pc was playable with a controller and controller support on pc games is pretty much standard these days. i can't imagine that firaxis would be so short-sighted and confine users to kb/m inputs

Guerrilla is good about producing Killzone games at a steady 2-year clip, and Shadowfall is coming up on 2-years-old now.

I'm sure Horizon ain't coming out in 2016, otherwise they would have said it, but I hope it's early 2017 (Killzone 2 and 3 were February games).

In response to Reply # 96

GAME OF SHOW, SAYS IKE MOSES

http://www.gamesradar.com/ex-bethesda-and-cd-projekt-red-developers-helped-build-horizons-open-world/

You might've noticed that Guerilla Games' newest project Horizon: Zero Dawn has lush environments that look far more open than Killzone's linear corridors. That's because Horizon's design is more organic than anything the studio has worked on in the past, with wandering herds of robo-dinos that you can happen across during your hunt. Making that transition from the scripted to a more open and free-form design is difficult work, especially for a studio that doesn't have a whole lot of experience in that area. That's why Guerilla specifically sought out designers from famous open-world franchises like Fallout and The Witcher to help create its new game.

According to an interview with studio art director Jan Bart Van Beek and lead producer Lambert Muller, the biggest challenge for the team was the shift from making "a level that needs to take 45 minutes to an hour, to making an experience that needs to go into the dozens of hours, that maybe has dozens of things to do." So the best solution for Guerilla was to hire talent that knew how to make these sorts of games already. The studio brought on developers from Bethesda (the lead writer for Horizon worked on Fallout: New Vegas, for instance) and CD Projekt Red (the studio behind the massive fantasy RPG series, The Witcher).

These are developers who know how open-worlds work, and were brought on to help Horizon grow and expand, to turn it into a "machine that works, where every moment is fun no matter how you approach it." Guerilla is essentially learning how to build a sprawling game like Horizon from scratch, and while their ambitions were initially incredibly high, these devs stepped in to help them realize why certain elements of open-world games work the way they do. "This is a lesson learned on how to the same mistakes that everyone's going to make when they first an open-world game," says Van Beek.

culled from here: http://www.giantbomb.com/podcasts/e3-2015-chattin-about-the-dark-souls-3-demo/1600-1247/

and here: http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/e3-2015-day-01-staff-impressions/2300-10381/

• co-directed by miyazaki
• from has been working on this since about 1 year before the release of dark souls 2
• visually on par with bloodborne. i think this entry and the previous one (and the leaked screen shots) all but confirm the fact that dark souls 3 is using the bloodborne or dark souls engine and NOT the dark souls 2 engine
• has an additional stance for each weapon that is possibly unique to that weapon or weapon type. maybe 3 stances per weapon type (1-handed, 2-handed, and weapon-unique stance)
• shields are still in
• continues in the dark souls vein of allowing a wide variety of play styles (high/low encumbrance, magic/miracle builds, etc.)

107. "ign impressions of dark souls 3"
In response to Reply # 106

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/16/e3-2015-dark-souls-3-is-everything-i-want-in-a-dark-souls-sequel

Dark Souls 3 looks like everything I want in a Dark Souls sequel. It’s brutal, but beautiful, mysterious, yet familiar, and while the demo played during Bandai Namco’s E3 demo was hands-off, it looks as mechanically complex as anything a hardened Souls veteran can hope for from the infamously challenging series.

Much of what I saw at the preview event was the same old Dark Souls that fans of the first know and love. The level demonstrated was called Wall of Lodoleth, a crumbling stone fortress similar to the first game’s Undead Parish. Cobbled bridges, basements, and walkways both vast and dangerously narrow made up the interwoven environment. From the bonfire at the start to the boss room at the end, you got the sense that paths branched and overlapped; that there was more to the level than might immediately be apparent.

“Areas are interconnected just like in the first Dark Souls,” said Miyazaki. “Having an interconnected map is my favorite.”

Enemies encountered during the demo ranged from hostile undeads to unrelenting knights with greatshields and spears. Some of these emaciated undeads came in the form of hostiles, while others kneeled and prayed at the faded sun above. A dragon even made an appearance, swooping in to blow fire at a horde of undead below. The most mysterious enemy was a seemingly normal hollow among a praying group up on a roof, who without warning transformed into some kind of horrible tar-like creature that devastated all surrounding enemies and eventually the player.

The boss at the end was called Dancer of the Frigid Valley, a huge, spindly, dancer-like creature that moved like smoke from a candle; a graceful but unpredictable rhythm. It reminded me a bit of Voldo from Soul Calibur, but instead of claws it wielded a long, narrow fire sword that set the boss room aflame with every swing.

According to Miyazaki, bosses have multiple stages where their movesets change, but our demonstrator didn’t make it to the second level of the fight.

Despite getting slaughtered by the boss, the person demoing the game for us did get lots of melee combat in with Lodoleth’s lesser enemies. It’s hard to say how the combat feels without actually getting a chance to play, but your options are mostly the same. The sword and shield combo is back, but you can still two-hand weapons as well. I saw the player, wielding a longsword, parry and riposte an enemy, backstab another, and stun opponents that were blocking. During the course of the demo, he also found and used a Greatsword, a long and short bow, and a set of dual-wielded blades called Legion Scimitars. Also, good old firebombs.

The newest combat feature is called the Ready Stance, which allows players to utilize devastating special abilities, like a powerful slash attack or an upward thrust that sends enemies flying into the air. These were special moves beyond the simple strong attacks you could do in other Souls games. It seemed more similar to the charge attacks in Bloodborne.

Miyazaki noted that “improved player controls” make moving around during combat more “intuitive.” And for those who hated Bloodborne’s dodge-stepping, Dark Souls 3 features the usual dodge-rolling of other Souls games.

Besides the Ready Stance, another new feature were small gravestones. When standing near one, you can press the action button to “offer flame,” which illuminates the gravestone in a blue light. After lighting it up, an epitaph on the tomb read: “Grave of nameless retainer. Raised his sword for the Lord of Cinder.”

This isn’t a huge feature of the game, according to Miyazaki, who explained how they can be used as landmarks, torches, or simply a way to learn bits of lore. They’ll be hidden throughout the game for the player to find.

As far as lore goes, Miyazaki was silent. When I asked whether the game was set in Lordran, Drangleic, or another kingdom altogether, Miyazaki simply said, “Dark Souls 3 shares the same world with Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2.”

He also kept quiet when asked about the giant, faceless knight at the end of the trailer, who Miyazaki referred to as the Lord of Cinder. Is it Gwyn? Is it the player character from the first Dark Souls? No comment yet.

Several things about Dark Souls 3 are still secrets. The team didn’t have much to reveal yet about multiplayer, only that it exists and there will be summon signs and matchmaking. There was no word on the rumored sacrifice mechanic, but Miyazaki did reference it and promise more info in “later days.”

What I did see, though, was amazing. Everything about the game’s visuals and atmosphere, from the looming environments, to the droning ambient sounds in the background, to the design of enemies, levels, weapons, and armor just screamed Dark Souls 1.

Miyazaki described the visual style they were going for as a kind of “withered beauty.” There was a moment in the demo that captured this perfectly. The player stood before the corpse of a dead dragon and watched as particles of dust and ash were swept off its body by the wind, illuminated in the rays of dying sunlight above.

I’ve always loved the first Dark Souls for the ease with which it can convey such a grand sense of despair, both in its tragic sights and sounds like the aforementioned dragon, but also in its impossibly winding world and the unrelenting dangers that lurk there.

Part of that love, though, comes in mastering the game’s systems, learning its world like a second home, and uncovering the story of what took place there. That will all have to be discussed at a later time, when the Dark Souls 3 team has more to reveal and a hands-on demo for us to check out.

Dark Souls 3 will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2016.

this is exactly what i wanted to hear

http://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/3a4e3s/dark_souls_3_oro_and_peeve_twitter_reports_from/

PEEVE PEEVERSON https://twitter.com/peeverson

DkS3 details:
DkS1 movement/combat (same parries/backstabs).
Kick is back.
Summon signs.
Soul Level matchmaking (dedicated servers).
I didn't ask about cheaters. I was going to, but realized I'd get a canned response. They're beyond aware.
Ragdolls return. @DreadedCone almost busted out laughing as Miyazaki spoke bc an enemy was stuck in ground shaking its butt in air
Enemies & combat seem faster. I'd say it's due to the aggression of certain enemies, ultimately looks fast as DkS1.
Boss: giant woman w/ dual blades, but hunched over swirling strangely. Odd movement, similar to Moon Presence delayed attacks (pic here)
They said "dedicated game servers"...we're not sure if it's a mistake in translation, or dedicated servers for actual PvP.
Hands-on demo coming later, I believe they said around end of July/early August at one of the other conventions.
I can't confirm, maybe one if the others can, but I believe 2-handing is still in as well. Not sure, I'd imagine so.
30fps confirmed. I'd imagine 1080p considering it's only next gen/PC, but not sure if it was officially mentioned.
Funny you say that, the term "immersion" was used often in the presentation. I almost cried, lol.
Also: An enemy was launched into air w/ great sword's stance attacks. He twirled around before crashing to the ground like DkS1 animation.
THE greatsword, or a greatsword-class weapon?
Great sword, aka ultra great sword class. It swung like an ultra great sword in DkS1, but significantly faster w/ more moves.
Think of stances as BB weapon transformations. When activated, your char takes a different stance and has a new moveset.
How were those dual-scimitars?
Pretty cool. Its stance move is a series of fancy twirls, reminiscent of DkS1 "dancing" movements.
Armor we saw was the char youve seen in promo. Looks amazing, and the cape was singed, the edge glowing orange as if burning.
This giant, flowing, swirling leech blob appeared, the nearby group of enemies suddenly trapped in it swirling inside.
They said he was a Lord of Cinder resurrecting. Keyword "a" Lord of Cinder.
No magic shown during the demo. It was just showing off a straight sword, great sword, dual-scimitars, and a bow.
It looks like what I feel many expected of a Dark Souls 2 when first hearing about it, and then some.
Oh, they aren't lacking anymore. Bows now look more viable as a primary weapon rather than a sidearm/after-thought.
The term "Legolas" was used jokingly by Miyazaki himself, lol.
Also you could move freely with the bow...so much so that there's a rolling R1 for it.
Put it this way: At one point, he roll backstabbed an enemy. Considering estus seems to work like DkS 1, heal punishes seem back.
Building on guard breaks, you don't riposte after. You just follow up with an attack.
Guards broken by new stance mechanic, which varies stances weapon to weapon. Skeptical at first until I saw. Very strategic.

==============================================

OROBORO https://twitter.com/oroborotheninja

Miyazaki also confirmed the game will have soul level based matchmaking.
Dark Souls 3 is going to be for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Miyazaki said it will run at 30 fps.
We saw 4 different weapons in the demo, the straight sword, greatsword, legion scimitars (two weapons in one), and the short bow.

*****THE MOST IMPORTANT PART*****

Dark Souls 3 looks and plays almost exactly like Dark Souls 1. The speed, rolling, parrying, riposting, and backstabbing is almost exact.

*****I'M SO RELIEVED! THIS GAME WILL BE FINE!*****

EDIT:
Are the Bow&Arrows like Ds1 or ds2?
they are unlike any other souls game, they seem insane now
they pulled out 3 different weapons on the same character
Evidently one of a dual wield weapon pair is sheathed until you press the button to two hand it. Two weapons, or are there weapons specifically designed to be dual wielded? Mostly conjecture, Obobobo wasn't too clear.

True point. I only worry that if it's OP, it will lend itself to overuse and under-use of other methods.

xbone backwards compatibility is huge. now i'm probably going to get an xbone at some point, assuming the games i want to be BC are made BC

dark souls 3 is going to be the sequel dark souls 2 should have been. same engine, same director, same world-building, slightly better and more varied combat, etc. i'm super excited for it. i hope it erases the slightly unpleasant experience of dark souls 2 from my memory

fallout 4 looks pretty good. i'm skeptical about the base building and mods on console. i'm disappointed at the use of the skyrim engine. weapon modding seems interesting

mgs v continues to look amazing. i'm slightly worried about the story aspect since they are advertising such an open and non-linear approach to completing the missions. also it's very odd to see snake riding around an open world with licensed music playing from his walkman. the gameplay looks fantastic and very open to the player's whims

just cause 3 should be a proper sequel to jc2, i.e., fixing all the bad stuff and improving the good stuff from the previous entry in the series. it doesn't appear to be much of a visual upgrade from 2 but 2 looked really good (and still looks good) so that may not be much of an issue

mario maker is incredible. it's going to be great when people start streaming their mario maker levels/runs on twitch/youtube. this game is going to create a cottage industry like minecraft did. should be interesting

i wonder what changes they're going to make to the ffvii remake. the pacing of that game needs to be updated for sure. they are doing to need to adjust exp/gil values and random encounter rates. i can't imagine they will mess with mechanics or story beats. maybe they will fix/alter broken materia combiations. no matter how SE approaches this game, there will be a large vocal contingent of the internet that hates this game

horizon looks ...promising? humans v. robot dinosaurs isn't particularly appealing to me. the combat doesn't look very compelling. i'm curious to see how designers of linear corridor shooters will tackle an open world, even with the help of ex-open world game devs

no man's sky could actually deliver on its promise. i'm sure the moment-to-moment gameplay will be kind of boring but the overall self-made narrative arc will be the thing that's shared on social media and talked about for a while

So much so that I'm actually considering buying a PS4 system, perhaps one packed with the latest Batman that's coming out this Tuesday. Two things holding me back are 1) I truly don't want to play that recent Batman game and 2) I don't know at the moment how long the Mad Max game is, so that may make me wait a bit until reviews trickle out for the game.

The 14 minute video I saw from E3 looked gorgeous though.

- MGS V
- Hitman (supposedly more like Blood Money, and less like Absolution)
- Deus Ex
- Fallout 4
- Uncharted 4
- Shenmue III

I'm not big on button mashers, but I'll check out Transformers Devastation, strictly based on it's replication of the original cartoon's style and characters.

Cuphead looks like a cool diversion, but I'm not buying an Xbox.

Platinum Games got a cult following, but I'm not part of that cult.

I can't deny this nostalgia, though. I'll most likely cop.

not sub-par casual-friendly licensed games like "legend of korra" and presumably transformers (the little i've seen from transformers made it look a lot like the legend of korra game)

i hate that platinum are using their time to make games like these instead of working on bold new IPs or sequels to their beloved properties. but if making these licensed games means that platinum can go crazy with a new IP on their own in the future then i'm all for it

XB1:
CUPHEAD - Take my money.

ReCore - I'm hopeful. Really wish they had gameplay, tho.

Backwards compatibility - Huge surprise. Boxed up my 360 early. Not holding my breath for the supported games list to get good, though.

PS4:
STREET FIGHTER V - The build I played felt so good. They're trimming all the fat from SFIV. It's a real shame the genre has such limited appeal now, because they're making a very thoughtful game.

HORIZON - First new AAA IP of this generation that I'm ecstatic about. Trapping the RoboT-Rex with the suspension cables made me lose it. Finding out the game is open world is some too good to be true shit.

NO MAN'S SKY - I'm going to play this game for 30 minutes a night for the rest of my life.

UNCHARTED 4 - This game deserves a lot more hype than it's getting. We're taking for granted how wild this shit looks. The branching paths in the demo were blowing my mind because that shit looks so seamless and polished. Also, I really love this series' multiplayer and I'm going to play the fuck out of that.

GALAK-Z - This shit needs to hurry the fuck up and come out.

The Last Guardian - No caps, but still hype. Shadows of the Colossus was one of the games that got me back into gaming after my retirement following the 16-bit era. The game looks beautiful, but I don't know anything more about it now than I did back in 2009 or whatever.

Nintendo:
Super Mario Maker - Looks fun. This along with Mother 1 and Ryu joining Smash got me contemplating a Wii U.

Multiplats:
Fallout 4 - We already know this shit is gonna be the GOTY.

MIRROR'S EDGE - Can't wait. I actually loved the first game.

Star Wars Battlefront - It looks good, but I feel like them looks are deceiving. I hope not, though.

For Honor - I want this to be good. Sword fighting games are so rare, yo.

Rainbow Six Siege - I'm going to buy this game and never play it because I don't have friends who game like that.

(and I got a preview invite and I'm waiting for the update to become available, hopefully today, so I'll be in it, too)

I was in chat with my buddy as he was running through it. Apparently he just popped his Mass Effect CD in, the game became available for download, and that was it. He fired it up, it somehow even had his old save information, and he was loaded into the final battle of the game from his save within minutes of powering it on.

He also purchased games digitally on X360, so any game he purchased that way became available on the far right blade of Games & Apps in the "Ready to Install" section of the Games menu. Just pick the game, download it, and you're off.

It sounds pretty amazingly seamless. I have a pretty full X360 library, very excited that's become portable. Told me Mass Effect was roughly 7GB, though, so I'mma have to stop dragging my feet on buying new storage...

I'm hoping the majority of games are in the 7-14GB range, as they were on the 360. Phil Spencer said on the Bombcast that they didn't yet know how to handle multi-disc games.

This is dope to be able to continue to play some games that I was in the middle of and won't feel like I have to rush through them on 360. I agree that it's about that time to invest in some upgraded storage.

I still think I'm going to wait until reviews come out before I cop though. Two things concern me with this game; the length and how glitchy the overall game will be. With so many gaming mechanics involved and the fact it appears to be somewhat sandbox in nature, I'll be stunned if this isn't glitchy as hell.

If this game is solid, I just hope PS4 is still going to sell Last of Us with the system. I wish Mad Max was packaged with the system, but I suppose that is asking for too much.

Or folks got the game early from mom and pop shops. Without saying too much, I've been watching the game on a streaming site and from what I've seen, the game looks very repetitive. Stale mixture or driving and harpooning your enemies. In addition, the combat system looks boring as well. A piss poor version of the combat system from the recent Batman games. Makes me happy that I didn't plunk down the dollars to invest in a PS4 solely for the game.

One good thing is that it appears the game isn't glitchy, which I feared would be the case since this is a sandbox game.

Streams pretty much every major video and audio codec. Reviews look pretty good. Not sure how I missed this, now my PS3 is almost entirely obsolete other than the games I own for it and haven't played. Might be ready to sell it to a friend, though.

http://www.theverge.com/2015/6/16/8788327/ps4-media-player-torrents

PS3 Media Server works fine on PS4, for those who were using that before.
