"Kojima + Del Toro + Reedus = Silent Hills"

http://www.polygon.com/2014/8/12/5996537/silent-hill-ps4-hideo-kojima-guillermo-del-toro

The P.T. playable demo that Sony announced at Gamescom and released earlier today on the PlayStation Store was actually a teaser for another game: a new Silent Hill from Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro.

The PlayStation 4 "interactive teaser" was apparently a stealthy, creative way to announce the new Silent Hill game that Kojima has been teasing for months. At the end of the P.T. demo, a character is shown walking through a quiet, foggy city street. The names Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro appear on screen just before the main character turns around, revealing that he is played by The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus.

The game is apparently called Silent Hills, according to a title card backed by Akira Yamaoka's Silent Hill theme.

You can see a replay of the end of the P.T. demo and the Silent Hills reveal in this Twitch video (skip to 1:16:00) by SoapyWarpig.

Sony announced P.T. as a playable interactive teaser for PlayStation 4 earlier today. The game was credited to 7780s Studio, a heretofore unknown game developer. Kojima employed a similar ruse when announcing The Phantom Pain by the fictitious Moby Dick Studios, a game later revealed to be Metal Gear Solid 5.

Update: Soapy Warpig has uploaded the key moment of the Silent Hills reveal to her YouTube channel, complete with excited reaction.

and it was enjoyable as fuck watching her get through the demo to the reveal.

All the 'annoying' comments...man, people have no sense of joy. Girl is broadcasting on twitch...she supposed to be dour or something?

The playable teaser was a dope idea. Well done, Konami.

and I agree, she was really adorable about it.

but I know for some people enthusiasm is some kind of trigger, like how people get annoyed when guys are going "oh...FU...GAH...heeeeeeeey" while playing.

I wonder if the whole thing will be first person. It works so well but at the same time they're probably paying a lot of money to use that guy's face.

horror, and she's not a gamer at all unless it's Mario Kart/Party, but I feel like I have to give this game a shot and I can't ask any of my dude friends to sit in a dark room and scream at a TV with me. I'm just glad she's trooper enough to say yes.

I'm pretty sure the last time I willingly subjected myself to horror was The Ring 2. That's how disinterested I am in the genre, but this game looks gorgeous and I just want to see how weird it really gets, I've heard there might be around a dozen different ways to "end" the game, most of them where you don't even get the reveal at the end.

As much as anything I just want to experience this super novel way to promote a game.

I got a sense of dread the more I went through this. Will it make you shit yourself? No. But, I did feel very uneasy as it went on. It was like a dark cloud was over me that played with all my nerves. Like when you know something is going to happen to you and you can't stop it, you just don't know when its going to happen.

I love jump scares, but the lead up is what really pulls me in. Kinda like it makes your emotions exhausted. If they can pull a full release off and give me the same feeling I had in this game then sign me up for playing this shit at night with headphones on. The creep factor is there and Silent Hill knows how to deliver in this department.

Although I do here the final product will be nothing like this.

This is the scariest game I ever played. I was just telling my man Doom 3 had moments that Scared the SHIT outta me, but compared to P.T, Doom 3 looks like Kirby's Dream Land. After the "Turn Around" scare, I was done. Truly a sense of discomfort the entire time i played.
