I went with Earthbound, which nets me a great game and 100 more points toward my next 5 dollars of the Digital Discount Promotion. Slight disappointment is the correct feeling.

They were handing out the Euro codes yesterday and the day before so you should be good. I got the NA one a month or so back.

I think this Platinum/Gold rewards might be similar to the Stars Catalogue. This is where you get stars from Nintendo purchases, which is used to buy items in the Stars Catalogue.
