Can't afford another gadget right now. I like it and it appears to be somewhat accurate in counting my steps. I've heard some stories of these gadgets erroneously counting your steps. For obvious reasons it doesn't track steps when you are cycling. There must be some sort of conversion to figure out how many steps a biking trip is equivalent to.
Found a step conversion chart. If I biked 15 mph that would equivalent to 160 steps per minute. So my ride is 30 minutes roughly. That would equal 4800 steps. That's tight. One ride and I would be 50% towards my goal. And I live in Boston which has a lot of hills so I'm pretty proud of myself because I ride to and from work everyday.

except for the fact that I got a rash and the device was recalled. I fixed that though by putting some sports tape over the part that's causing the rash. Back to the fitbit, I can't leave home without it. I got my original flex from work but was disappointed it wasn't a watch and didn't count my stairs so I got the force. I live in SF so I'm often walking hills. My brother was just in town so we did a bunch of sightseeing and I nailed 100+ floors each of the past 3 days. I also have the digital scale at home so it syncs with everything. Obviously neither do anything directly to improve my health but just having it constantly monitor my exercise and movement is enough to remind me to get off my ass and keep moving. It also reminds me to drink lots of water throughout the day. All in all, I'm a fitbit fan. The app is great and connecting with friends is cool. I'm looking forward to the future replacement to the force whenever that comes out. hopefully it integrates with my phone more than it already does. like tell me who's calling or who just sent a text.

To think that this is just the beginning, that there's all kinds of better stuff already almost in stores is wild

>I dont have a fuelband or whatever its called, but this thing >is still counting how many calories I burn.
The estimates can be off, but not that bad.
Obviously your overall activity level, metabolism, size affect how many you actually burn, the the estimates are usually within 10% of reality, which isn't bad at all.

for tracking fitness and activity, it's best to get a device that measures your heart rate via a heart rate monitor, correct? From what I understand via brief Google searches, the devices on their own only measure motion on your wrist, which doesn't seem too accurate to me.
13. "You are correct, but that's not the point" In response to Reply # 12
The measurements aren't super accurate, but they provide an estimate which is actually fairly good. Plus, the app and the gamification of activity levels, the way you can log food and sleep... ....all that is great, definitely helps.
Future devises obviously have more features

I did a bit of research and found a device similar to the Fitbit/Nike Fuelband/Jawbone UP24 called the Polar Loop that works in tandem with a Polar Bluetooth based heart rate monitor. I just started the two products today, so I can't give them a honest review yet.
15. "kind of interesting how it knows my biking distance" In response to Reply # 0
i mountain bike a lot, and it somehow tracks the distance i went, and i will easily receive 5 lights after it. because I drive places and it knows im driving; when i mountain bike, i am definitely getting fitbit points.
perhaps its just one of those scientific anomalies humans aren't meant to understand. im a wrist double tappin MONSTER

I was the only one using it though. Lost it about 3 months ago. Searched everywhere in my place for it. I'm finally caving in and about to get a new one. I might wait until the new joint comes out.
