Looks pretty hard to hate on if it was at least mostly in-game. I'm so out of the look on MK games...I stopped around 4 and only dabbled after that. I only wanted to get back in on the cheap since Street Fighter runs my fighting game life. I only play Tekkens cuz I keep trying to pay myself back for learning one of King's 10-hit combos and then not having anyone to compete with during my college days (late 90s...aka just before online console gaming).

Not totally sure. But the post on the Giant Bomb forums figured out who the studio was that made it. It's totally an out of of house target render but it certainly looked like MK9 + Injustice.

The final game is looking much uglier than the initial reveals, which is to be expected, but still.
I watched a little stream last night. It still looked like Mortal Kombat. People zoning with specials until somebody pushed a button and got caught in a long ass juggle combo.
Lots of menu screens as soon as the announcer said, "FINISH HIM!" too...
They need a tournament mode that disables fatalities or some shit.

I'm right there with you. I'll probably play this for a couple months and then never touch it again. I kinda wish I bought the disc instead but I had $20 in PS store wallet already. I'm hoping my son doesn't want it otherwise I gotta get a XOne copy too. He'd probably play it more than me.
Right now tho, that Guilty Gear is about the best fighting game on the new systems till SFV or Tekken 7 drops. That GG is dope tho.

Definitely beautiful and fun tho. I wish I had a fight stick for XOne. I can get by with a pad on PS4, but that pad on XOne drives me nuts sometimes on KI.

even though I'm getting MKX for PS4 (I already got an arcade stick for PS4).
I just wanted something else to play KI with instead of the XB1 pad, but since I don't know the future of KI I don't want to buy a full price arcade stick for it.
who has time for traditional 4-to-5 step inputs these days? i think WB is doing everyone a favor by reducing this laborious, difficult, and time-consuming process to a simple 1-button operation. and it's so cheap! it's like you're losing money if you don't buy this!

Still weird using my thumb so much to block, run, and do

What do you do in the neutral game? It seems like a lot of run-up, block, and have a standoff with the opponent at around arm's distance. It's cool that the basic combos are easy. I guess I need to nail down a basic combo that starts with a low attack for when the opponent is stand blocking.

Wanted to buy the game last night but I couldn't find anything other than the Premium Edition on PSN so I went to Amazon and they were selling digital codes, which redeemed and downloaded the game on my PS4 just fine. But then I kept getting an error that I couldn't open the application because I hadn't purchased it.
I did a little digging and couldn't find anything about this but I did see there was an error with being logged in to PSN while trying to start the game, but that didn't work for me. So this morning I call Sony and after some troubleshooting they say I'll have to contact Amazon but their best guess is it has to do with an update to the game and the store.
So I call Amazon and essentially was just on hold for 45 minutes while the operator tried to get me a new promo code, and then when I tried that and it said it had already been used her "leadership" (I'd never heard that phrase on a tech support call before, it made me laugh through the Indian accent) just gave me my money back.
BUT, a new patch came out today, and it seems like I'm going to keep the license to the game since the refund came through Amazon instead of PSN?
In any case, probably more excited about that than the game itself since a new patch came out this morning that took the lock off the game and lets me play it. Picked Lin Kuei and did two matches with Kitana for faction rep, game seems a little slower than MK9/DC but that's probably just getting used to the game. Curious to try the new characters and get in some online fights with my buddy that copped last week.

Warner Brothers is sponsoring the event I'm putting on and we're having a tourney with this and USFIV so I was amped to play it since I'm still stuck on the last gen at home.
played it.
fuck I suck and it feels unnatural unlike SFIV which was like riding a bike.
don't understand the factions and hate that the angle adjusts depending on how far or close you are to the other characters. I need to figure out something on this damn game before the event.
