That's a shot at O_E by the way. This seems like a solid device. I wanted a surface mini but this is better than expected. I can't wait for the anandtech benchmarks.
all i need it to do is run lightroom well enough. i've been doing more and more international travelling and something small like this would be perfect for me to do some editing on the road instead of waiting to get home to do it. for example, i will be in thailand next year for 2 months and don't look forward to coming home to my computer and going through 2 months of images. would be great if i could get started while still on the trip.

If I'm picky I'd say that the new pen doesn't feel as smooth to write with as the old pen, but that might be a matter of acclimatising. Loving the new screen, yet to see quite how good the battery life is, but so far life is good.

$1k hurts (i'm getting i5 at least). Just won $400 on a world cup pool so it's down to $600 for me, gotta hustle a bit more to get my outta pocket cost to $500 and i'll bite.

I'd probably get the i3 version just because I don't like investing that much money into new tech like this. I'm not really concerned about the small SDD because I can just use a Micro SD, but the 4GB of RAM has me a little concerned in terms of longevity (and resale value).
I have a Nexus 7 that I've been using a lot, but the screen's a bit small, it's not as powerful as I'd like, and a tablet OS is pretty limited in terms of doing real work.
I'd mostly be doing stats analyses and reading science articles on the Surface, and having the pen would probably come in handy when doing presentations or lectures.
The 4GB of RAM and having to buy the keyboard, which isn't that great and kind of pricey, is keeping my from taking the jump.
but damn they are expensive. i was looking to run adobe lightroom while traveling. wouldn't anything less than the i5, but starting at $1k is a little much for me right now.

and generate a 10% mover's coupon (apply for a move of address and just cancel the request after USPS gives you a coupon), you can get whichever model with $150 off and an additional 10% off if you find an associate that will let you stack the coupons.

i'm curious though, for the money would anyone just recommend a similar spec laptop, or is the portability the key here?
personally i'm looking to run Lightroom while travelling internationally. would love to get an i7, but i think the i5 would run LR just fine.
