"I did it with randoms, but I want to do it with a more organized group. I don't remember what the gamemode was called. But basically 1 team were in jets, and the other team had to flee from the jets while on motorcycles. Had to get from Fort Zancudo to the docks in Los Santos. No respawns. That was wonderful."

The actual *playing* experience was fun as hell for the few hours I was able to play. What I learned was that I am not built for online competition. I'm usually the liability in death matches. Still, the actual gameplay is fun.

The rest is abysmal.

I absolutely loathe the method used to create your player, for starters. What's so fucking hard about doing it like, say an NBA 2K or WWE game? In theory Rockstars method should yield an amazing variety of possible faces, but it seems incredibly limited IMO. It would be a lot easier to simply select your desired shade and manually alter the size and shape of your facial features, while utilizing default templates for those who aren't that invested. We can't determine size, weight, height, or any of that, which is kind of disappointing.

On the whole it's not like it's a deal breaker or anything, but it's a little odd that a game that prides itself an incredible level of detail that is all but unmatched would have such a limited scope when it comes to creating your character. To that degree, it's a relatively big deal IMO.

We already know about the loading times and timeouts and all that shit. and I'm sure that will get ironed out at some point.

I will say I didn't count on so many assholes though. I got killed pretty often by random dickheads who drove by and opened fire. One guy fucked me on a robbery by stealing my getaway car. That's part of the fun, the wild west nature of it all, but I got murked like 6 times in the first thirty minutes, just exploring before I realized I could turn on passive mode.. Passive mode is a good idea, but it shouldn't be limited to walking IMO.

That's the only thing I can think of. The whole genealogy thing? Yeah.
That coupled with, like you said, a horrible menu system.
It made me just create a random character just so I could get to the game (which didn't work).

Are you feeling hungry, like maybe you need to boil a pot of water, throw on some pasta, and maybe whip up a quick tomato sauce from scratch? Join a game of GTA online. You should be chowing down sometime between the third and fourth pre-job loading screens.

The interface is far-and-away the worst I've ever seen in a supposedly AAA game. You're routinely spending 4, 5 minutes at a time with a controller in your hands doing nothing. That's not a game. It's a chore. My most common thought while playing GTA is "jesus christ, just get back to the game world so it will autosave and let me turn it off."

I guess GTA just speaks to me. I don't have a mic yet so that was a bummer, but I got into a game with some friends and was trolling the hell out of 'em out in the desert since they didn't know my PSN ID while they're screaming at me and laughing like crazy out of my TV. Then I went and did a couple races and quite a few deathmatches, the latter of which I felt like a natural at and was routinely topping leaderboards for kills.



There's just some crazy charm to pulling off basic-ass GTA missions with other folks around you. Like the repo missions for Simeon; I love how some of them have you collecting multiple cars at different points on the map, and your crew can come together and separate as necessary to get away from the cops.


Speaking of which, a lot of the systems feel way more forgiving in this mode. Cops lose sight of you a lot faster.


Lastly, I was robbing a liquor store and hear someone with a mic yelling "whoever's robbing that store look in the sky when you come out" and it's a dude just randomly flying by with a helicopter wanting to help out. Unfortunately he wanted me to shoot the helicopter that ended up chasing us down and all I had was a pistol, so I guess he got bored and went back to single player, causing the helicopter to plummet and explode which was lame but I got a laugh out of it.

like all this time between that game and this game and the only noticeable differences are the pretty blue circles signaling missions, shitty menus to accompany the missions, and passive mode. Passive mode is a waste of time because other players can still run you over to kill you. Oh yeah and more missions. But other than that its just small touches here and there. Very underwhelming.

maybe I'm playing the wrong games online. Because GTA V really feels like that other shit.

I love using other players' aggro to get police off my back. Evading four stars is WAY easier online if you can create some kind of crush between two separate police chases. I got my chopper to aggro onto another guy when I ducked underneath an overpass, then I skirted down into the aqueducts to the base of another bridge and hid down there on foot for 3 or 4 minutes with barely any health or ammo heart pounding.

And I got the four stars almost instantly for being an innocent bystander turned mercenary with a sawed-off in the Hollywood Hills to kick all that off.

I'm real down with this game.

nothing about this is special. I mean you could argue its the same online as GTA IV but in a slightly prettier package. Nothing ground breaking about this at all and what makes it worse is the horrible interface.

Shit is gonna be my Warcraft soon as I get a mic.

But I'm one of those weirdos that thinks GTA4, RDR and GTA5 have the most exciting gun combat of the generation. I couldn't get into those others with their multiplayer though, it wasn't free form enough. This one is like crack though, every 2 minutes I'm doing something new, and there's a whole single player progression for when I'm tired of messing with randoms or clan members.

I can't wait for a couple weeks from now when the heist missions start trickling out to high level players.

Like for real once the thrill of it being "Ohhh look its GTA online". It's just not that great of an online game and has some major issues.

I dunno maybe I expect more out of my online. Me and a few friends are only playing it until another game comes out and that'll be in two weeks.

Single player great. online not so much.

The last multiplayer I remember really enjoying was that God of War Ascension beta. Before that? I don't know, NBA 2K for all its online faults.


Otherwise, maybe Killzone 2 (never played 3). And before that SOCOM II. Me and (online) multiplayer don't get along too often (see: GTAIV, RDR), partly 'cause I've never had a mic on PS3 and partly because anyone who was deep into the SOCOM II community knows there isn't much that compares to that experience, which was my introduction to online gaming essentially (after NCAA...03 or whatever and the first SOCOM).

Something about this game just still feels magical 20 levels later. I had a one-on-one deathmatch at the morgue earlier that might have been the most tense 15 minutes of gameplay I've had since I was trying to save my farm from pinkertons in Red Dead. But it was all against another person.

I guess that novelty works on someone like me. I love the stealth aspects especially.

Then got on last night and it was a bunch of games with players all in the 30-70 rank. I got killed so many times by people I couldn't even see. I'm at rank 10 or 11, k/d at like 0.8. The guns you get at the higher ranks are ridiculous, assault rifles and snipers.

I just do deathmatch from the quick jobs. It would be better to play with all similar rank instead of facing two clans with all 50 rank guys. I back out and quit when I can but it still takes a long ass time to join another game. Maybe there's a better way to get fair games.

And p for props and wes lexner, my fault for freezing your games the couple times I tried to get in. The game has big problems still with players joining and leaving during pregame. I usually have to back out to the dashboard at least once during a session due to freezing.

Stealing personal vehicles, blowing them up, driving them into rivers and oceans.
I bail out by jumping into a mission.
GTA trolling.

I got to the point where I started getting bounties put on me.

This ONE DUDE kept going at me. I killed him 6 times before he finally killed me. He would pull up behind me and I'd give chase. He'd shoot up my whip and flatten all four of my tires. I'd escape and get out my car, duck behind cover and just pop him in the face while he's in the whip.

I hope that 1000 dollars was worth it, b. (It wasn't)

I don't ness fuck with other people on the server, I just crew up with 1-2 friends and do missions. I'm gonna start having to do that now. Because I'm minding my business and have some nigga chase me all the way out in Blaine County for nothing (I won't even have a bounty on me).

It pretty much renders bounties worthless (and in most cases more costly).

But, yeah, freemode is ridiculous now that folks have grenades and sniper rifles.
I had fun being a douche for a day yesterday, but that's par for the course everyday regarding everyone else.

I'll try passive mode for a while and see how that turns out.
I'll def jump from mission to mission from here on out.

some days we just do missions and other nights we just fuck with people. Free mode is my favorite part about GTA online.

Last night there was 4 of us and we decided to steal stingers. So we took 3 stingers and the 4th stole a jet. We were chillin just flying around blowing up AI cars. Then this cat was making a move to an airport. We wanted to make sure nobody else got in the sky and tried to take us out. So we went and killed him. Well he kept trying to get in a plane and we kept killing him. Then he stole a tank. He started taking us out. Shot us all out of the sky and we try going against him in vehicles. Wasnt happening those tanks are solid. He killed me like 9 times and I only killed him twice. We got frustrated as shit and one of my party members came up with a brilliant plan. We were just going to get in our personal vehicles and run into him at full speed. The tanks are so strong our cars would blow up. If we did it enough times we would make him a bad sport for destroying our personal vehicles. We did it like 4 times each. He was wearing a dunce cap and we left the party. Poor guy is probably still only getting Bad Sport Lobbies.

I’ve run into a couple of cats who I just flat out couldn’t hang with. High levels, full armor, better weapons, and sheer bad luck on my end. The works. One dude, no matter what I did, I could NOT get the auto aim to function. So we’re in a shoot out, and he’s up on me 3-2. Whenever I would pop out to shoot him, my auto aim would have me aiming everywhere but at him. The sky, a truck, nothing in particular, you name it. I just couldn’t get a shot on him.

So I decide to make a run for it and regroup, figuring it’s just a weird glitch, and he gets me with the shotty. Most times, I get scoped by this guy. He camped out on a roof and lobbed grenades in between gun bursts like he was pulling a fireball/short kick trap in Street Fighter. At one point he was like 11-3 on me, and I realize I won’t be able to fight this prick on his terms.

So to hell with it. I go into passive mode and start following dude EVERYWHERE, flipping him the bird the whole time. After awhile he stopped shooting me and just ignored me, so I gambled in turning off passive mode and gunned his punk ass down.

I make a run for it so that I’m not in the area when he respawns, and then put passive mode back on. He shoots at me for awhile, and then goes about his business punching every woman in sight. He’d shoot at me every 10-20 seconds or so, just to be safe. For some reason, he jumps into the water. So I gamble again and turn off passive mode….. and mowed his ass down while he was swimming. 2-0 since I started this plan. I tried a third time, chased him down while I was in passive mode. Jumped out of the car and ran around back where his dot was….. and his punk ass escaped me in his helicopter.

Sure, the final tally wound up something like 12-5, but I like to think I won the war even if I lost more battles.

I pull this out every so often when there’s someone that I can’t hang with, is way too random in his attack on me, killed me for a bounty, or in the case of one particular prick, killed me as I was leaving Simeons with a fresh $12000 injection of cash. It’s pretty damn effective, but I wouldn’t make it a regular part of my strategy. It does make for a great nuclear option though.

at least that plays it for more than an hour or two every couple weeks, type of people that own a console for guests. and I don't have a mic, so free mode doesn't go anywhere productive for me especially after the first few levels.


My major gripe right now is for a solid three or four days I can't get anyone into my games whenever I try to start mission. I might get one person in if I'm lucky. I keep sitting in the lobby for 15-20 minutes hoping upon hope someone will join up and then I just quit the game. What's weird is I never had this problem before this past week.

Someone killed me as I went to my personal vehicle last night. I decided to find him and kill him back but he whooped me bad. Total PWNGE, MAN.

So what the hell, I decided to abandon my dignity and roll with another guerilla tactic: Sticky bombs. Jack a car, strap a sticky on it, chase him down, and either plow into him outright, detonating the bomb on impact, or dive out the car and hope I live. The dive option only worked when dude was trapped in a corner, but every other dive attempt was thwarted because he was able to dodge and get away. So I mostly stick with the kamikaze.

Anyhow, after this guy racked up 13 kills to 1 on me, my Super Kamikaze Attack brought the score to 13-5 before he left the game.
