how the A.I. vs. player scenarios played out EXACTLY the same, with the same animations and everything, up until dude got in that car and sped off? That's been bugging me ever since, it made everything I saw in that video feel like a set up. On some Bioshock Infinite (NOT saying this wasn't an excellent game) levels of "in this demo we'll show you this, then in the game you'll ACTUALLY do this...".

Overall I'm not sure A) I'll own a PS4 and B) be ready for a game like this when I very well could still be deep into GTA5. But that one demo ultimately did more to turn me off of the game than on.

I'm also worried all the antagonistic stuff from NPCs and users is going to be way too intrusive when you just want to play the game. Hopefully they have some sort of "encryption" gimmick or something so you can turn that off if/when you want to.

i actually really like the constant pop ups and the incorporated-into-the-world hud elements

the city itself, however, looks really cookie-cutter. the color palette seems bland (kind of like gta iv actually) and the designs on everything from buildings to cars is just devoid of anything resembling creativity. they are obviously taking great pains to make this as city look as authentic as possible but i can see that backfiring. for some reason the suspension of disbelief gets more difficult in these "real world" open world games when they have to implement generic video game mechanics such as purchasing weapons, which was demonstrated in the video by the guy walking into a gun shop in the middle of the historic district. they are trying so hard to convince you that the city is super real and then they completely break that illusion with something dumb like a gun shop in the middle of chicago's historic district. it's not quite an uncanny valley thing but it's somewhere in that vicinity

but who knows? it's entirely possible watch dogs will strike that balance between super-realistic and incredibly-goofy-and-therefore-fun-because-everything-looks-so-realistic that sleeping dogs managed to hit

>SOME folks just want something different and TO ME Watch dogs

this i can get with. what gta V offers is a known quantity: we know what it will look/play/sound/feel like. for some people that's a good thing, and for others it's bad. personally, i'm looking forward to experiencing the second-to-none craftsmanship that rockstar brings with their gta games

i don't see much depth in watch dogs, especially compared with gta, but it's impossible to say definitively whether or not watch dogs will be more than what has been shown so far. just going off the videos that have been released so far it seems like watch dogs will be interesting up until the point you get tired of the concept of hacking everything, since that seems to be the crux of the game. the wrapper surrounding the hacking doesn't seem particularly interesting to me

It's ubisoft remodeling Assassin's Creed into a slightly different form when you really watch these vids. The vids to me are hurting the appeal. The more I see of the game, the more I'm like this is Assassin's Creed again.

but this WD multiplayer system reminds me of Dark Souls. IF DONE RIGHT (where the styles of gameplay can be varied enough to keep it fresh), then seamlessly integrating multiplayer into the campaign can be incredibly fun.

Dark Souls' multiplayer is lauded because of the creative interactions between the players. You can leave semi-canned messages at locations as clues (or lies?) to other players at the same point in the campaign. Results can be as varied as warning players of a trap, or tricking them into falling off cliffs, amongst... other things.

There are also nine factions (covenants) you can join in the game, including choices to go PvM or PvP. The Princess' Guard allowed you to heal other players when supporting in co-op while as a Forest Hunter you protected the forest Darkroot Garden, invading other players when they were attempting to pass through. You don't know true gaming joy until the experience of winning a highly tense duel with some DUMB motherfucker that tried to invade you in your 10th attempt on Sen's Fortress.

But if you don't want to do multiplayer though? Just remain in Phantom form (the default form), then the only interaction with other players is through the messages on the ground.

It was a complex yet elegant system (although with some server issues), and it GREATLY increased replayability for what was already a highly replayable game. IF Watch Dogs doesn't devolve into a foot race every time someone hacks into your world, then it could be really fun. Not sure how you could resolve bullet time mechanics, but if there were multiple ways to hack (and interact) with each others' games then this could be what makes or breaks Watch Dogs.

But, like SP1200 said up there... this seems boring as fuck though.

i can't think of a single one. i actually can't think of a single rockstar game that ran smoothly, save for table tennis

i'm not convinced that gta v will look that much better on a monster pc build, much less on "we're still figuring this stuff out" new consoles. the anti aliasing will be better (fewer jaggies), the framerate might get bumped to an unsteady 60 instead of an unsteady 30, and there may be a few additional lighting effects but other than that the game will probably run and look very similar to how it runs and looks on current gen consoles

what is this, last gen?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2014/05/13/ubisoft-reveals-actual-resolution-for-watch-dogs-on-ps4-and-xbox-one/

i know resolution and frame rate are not the be-all and end-all when it comes to how good games look (see: any number of great-looking ps3 and 360 games) but i would expect better from new consoles and especially ubi since they cancelled ps3 and 360 versions AND delayed the release on ps4 and xbone

games that run at higher-than-supported resolutions still look better than if they were running at the resolution supported by the tv/monitor. it's called downsampling:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509076

i know the above link only mentions pc but the idea should be applicable for consoles as well. try running your console in 1080 instead of 720 and see if you notice a difference. or maybe the consoles already do that when outputting to 720p

5 time zones in the US, 3 in australia, 3 in south america, 4 in europe, etc., + dealing with god knows how many digital distribution services (steam, uplay, gmg, gamersgate, getgames, xboxlive, etc.)

BUT

they really should have this stuff figured out by now. it's empirically easier and cheaper to hit a switch and let people play after they've already preloaded the game than it is to print up discs, pack them in cases, and ship them all over the world

i got my preorder through greenmangaming (25% off!). their forums have erupted with complaints from people all over the world not having received their keys despite it being past 12:00 AM where ever they are

on the plus side, the game is loaded with fluff content if you're a fan of world building. it's constantly pushing side missions and unlocks on you, definitely designed by dudes who studied at the Ubisoft School of Just Do Everything.

on the negative side, driving is a little awkward compared to GTA (reminds me more of the brief time I've spent with Sleeping Dogs or Saints Row) and Aiden isn't a very likable character at all. I get the impression this won't be winning any writing awards, either, but I suppose I'm still really early (played about two hours).

on the humorous, oh video games side, if you're as addicted to the Profiler as I am you'll likely always have it on, meaning Aiden is NEVER not looking at his phone. I can't tell if it's a commentary on how much of a dick he is or just a funny oversight.

http://www.avclub.com/review/watch-dogs-takes-great-idea-and-bludgeons-it-norma-205103

essentially, all of the stuff about Watch Dogs that's unique is pretty fun to engage with. I'm addicted to checking into Foursquare in a way I never have or will be in real life, now that I've got next-level hacks like steam pipes and blockers I'm finding the car chases more engaging (though I'm still a bit surprised Aiden knows how to use all of these weapons yet can't fire even a simple pistol out the drive side window), and I must admit that the way they are CONSTANTLY throwing side missions at you hasn't gotten old yet, even if it means after six hours I've only finished five story missions.

But all the other stuff about the game that's borrowed from other games just feels lacking. I wish the enemy encounters had a much stronger emphasis on "lean up against this brick wall, hack a camera, hack a camera, blow up some electrical boxes, unlock the gate, flip on a distraction and sneak up to your hacking point" rather than attempting to turn Aiden Pierce into a b-movie Tom Cruise character.

Also, I hope Aiden dies or something at the end of this game. I haven't seen a franchise get off to this rocky of a start with their protagonist since inFamous got all antsy about whether people liked Cole or not. Aiden is waaaaaaaaaaay worse than Cole ever was. I'd rather play as the creepy old club owner that looks and sounds like an extra from Tales from the Crypt at this point.

some elements of this game feel really refined. the assassin's creed-like smorgasboard of activities is implemented well. the sections where you're required to navigate your way through an area full of enemies strongly evoke the outposts in far cry 3. the city itself is very convincing. there is a lot of attention to detail in the actual buildings, streets, alleys, and parks

other parts of this are near garbage status. the driving is awful. the shooting is almost unplayable without focus. there are myriad guns to choose from but you only really need the silenced pistol you get after completing the tutorial. the character movement feels clunky. there isn't a jump button nor is there a button to perform a melee attack. this is stuff that was mastered 2 generations ago. why they couldn't make it work in this game is beyond me

sometimes the game looks great, approaching sleeping dogs on PC status. other times it looks like gta iv. it runs like hot mess on PC. my frame rate is all over the place, even when i dial the settings down. it hitches for a full second or two every now and then for no apparent reason. i've had multiple CTD's on what i consider to be a very stable PC that rarely crashes

unfortunately i think what this game does best is invite unflattering comparisons to other (generally superior) games. the MP cribs from dark souls. the side missions are either from other open world games or from other ubi games. this game doesn't really do much that's original. the hacking (the thing that supposed to set it apart from other games) can be fun but it's reduced to "find the camera that can see the thing you really need to hack" in most situations. kind of weird that the selling point of the game is often marginalized. i do really like the blackout ability but it's mainly for show and not particularly effective

then there's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idA9BEA4Hxs. can't even imagine what this game would have been like had it been released in november

i think ubi overestimated their ability to make a game like this. they've definitely succeeded in some areas but other parts are a massive failure. maybe this game's state is a function of their "a million different studios working on one project" way of making games

I still think they needed another 6 months to work with this game but didn't want to hold it any further. They should have never tried to make this both current and next gen. It appears they bit off a little bit more than they could chew. Good game tho, but you can see they needed even more time.

I wanted this to be great

Just kinda meh.

Not to mention the fact that I have a great PC, and the game does look pretty good. Crashed my entire PC at one point. Restarted and my save file was fucked. Thank god I know my way around a PC and found a back up but it was almost 3 hours behind where I just left out. In frustration I just turned it off and went to sleep. Not acceptable at all.

Oh well, at least there is Evolve coming out this year.

I really haven't delved that deeply into it (less than three hours), but a few first impressions:

- the driving is indeed awful. So is the sound of some of the vehicles. I got on a motorcycle that sounded more like a lawnmower.

- maybe it's more graphically impressive on next gen consoles, but I feel like the world looks sorta flat in this one. For instance, I booted up Saint's Row III (since it was free this month with Games with Gold) for a few minutes. The level of detail in the world like the rivets in the metal and imperfections in the street paving just aren't found in WD.

- I think the gaming world overall has been had with the hacking thing. I mean, it's one button situational triggering. Not all that deep so far.

- does this dude own a headset? Who just does all that shit walking around looking at his phone like it's 2007.

-the movement and combat mechanics are pretty primitive. I mean, even trying to corner around cover in a firefight is a hassle. Like bearfield said: so many of these mechanics are basic now in so many other games, how did they get this shit wrong?

I'll check back in after I do a few missions and side quests.

I've done 6 story missions so far. my playtime is eight hours.

This is really one of the only games I can remember where the side content is way more compelling than the main game (though I think all the AR stuff is pretty hokey). If Watch Dogs 2 was entirely Criminal Convoys, ctOS hacks and Gang Hideouts I'd probably be happy.

the first one i encountered they were on this roof top terrace thing and the two targets i had to "knock down" were on opposite buildings.

it was very dificult
i eventually gave up im gonna go back and try to get the mission to spawn them in an easier spot

I kept using the ladder and getting the first guy, but I was in sight of everyone else with no place for cover.

I beat it by coming up the back way, got a hack kill, distracted a few and took them out one by one. I could have left after I got the second target, but they all had to pay!

I just use the silenced pistol until things stop working out, but I always tag the target before I run in unless something goes horribly wrong.

that rooftop one was actually one of the first I finished, it's been so many of them at this point now I can't actually remember how I did it though. I just always make sure to mark everyone with the cameras and from there it's rarely been more than one or two dudes I had to kill.

there was one particularly awesome one I did that made me so mad my PS4 appears to not record any Watch Dogs footage at all where I got up onto the train tracks and then dropped down into the middle of the base, clubbed the dude I had to take down and then turned and sprinted around the corner and over a fence. The enemies never even pursued me, it was just over. Felt so good.

ive never stuck around when the criminals call for reinforcements

anyways i witnessed one of those spontaneous muggings and as im chasing the guy he called in for help

i take him down and then the homies showed up

3 crown vics, 1 suburban. they got blacked out windows with silver gold fleckish paint and a black stripe, black low profile 24's with orange highlights and black interiors

anyways how do i know this? cause i slaughtered them all and took the suburban and drove it for several hours before i promptly parked it in an alley and couldnt find it again.

You'll amass an arsenal quickly if you shoot your way through ctos towers and convoy missions.

However, I suck at running, gunning, and using focus. I'm the type of dude that will hack a ctos tower from the side walk without killing anyone and walk away unnoticed.

I have every other weapon in the game from guards, but I haven't gotten a better snipe rifle than the one I bought nor stumbled across a grenade launcher.

then again, I've got over 50% of all the side quest progressions completed (mostly just Fixer missions left) and am still on the last mission of Act I in the story.

then again money seems pretty pointless in this game unless it opens up a bunch in the following acts. I spent about $40,000 on clothes and bought nearly all of them, an hour later I was back up to $30,000.

They get harder and harder the more you advance in the story. I messed around and spent two days trying to figure out how to infiltrate a gang infested hideout without being seen and fix three things. That shit was so hard. You have to go undetected or risk fighting 30 soldiers along with three snipers. Did I mention their accuracy is spot on?

The only saving grace is the sheer amount of tools available to complete the mission outside of guns. I'll explain what I did if someone needs it later on but will say I did it without killing anyone and knocking out four guards undetected.

This is my modification for Watch Dogs.

First I'm going to tell you how I started.

-I'm a very obsessed person, with many things mainly graphics . Also i'm a fan of using sweetfx on every game I can use it. I like to make my own presets always.
After release and this stupid stuttering problems I started searching for fixes etc.
Then I saw many threads talking about the engine when I realized it was based on dunia 2 so I tried to unpack the files which obviously not worked.. so after searching so much for the unpacker I found it, started playing with it and after a long time of testing I ended up getting the E3 Bloom from 2012 working.
After studying how bin hex worked and downloading many tools to convert files etc, I was able to integrate and enable many effects. I told myself to keep trying and trying and that is what I have done.

This is the result of my obsession and my try to be like the greatest (iCEnhancer, MalDo, etc) those guys are genius, and I'll always say the same thing: I'm just a novice.

Enough of history

Included in this mod(not all features are available yet):

-Changes to the default fog values
-Enabled bokeh DOF for the main cameras
-Stuttering Improvements
-E3 2012 Bloom
-Performance Improvements
-Enabled Headlight Shadows
-LoD Changes
-Reflection changes
-Added 3 new cameras to the game(closer, normal, further)
-Rain changes(High quality rain drops, properly reacting to light, etc)
-LensFlares(WIP)
-Lighting changes(TESTING AND WIP)
-Civilians density changes

And many more things.. SOON.

in order to make the xbone and ps4 versions look better. i don't know if i buy that, especially since it's really hard to hide things that you don't want people to find in pc games. i think it's just ubi being lazy since most of their pc ports have been really poor, with the exception of far cry 3 (and even that wasn't a very good port)

Nigga interrupted my gang hideout mission as it was about to start and hacked my shit. I'm getting payback in GTA Online. I've got a bounty ready.
