fuck the ice caves.
anyway, spelunky is an unforgiving roguelike platformer. think super meat boy meets super mario brothers meets nethack or dwarf fortress. you start in the mines at level 1-1, and work your way down to world 4-4 (i'm guessing here, as i've only made it to 3-1). the catch is that if you die, you start right back at 1-1 with no items or money. what you do retain is knowledge of the enemies/enviroments, like that the orange toads explode after you hit them or that the vampire bats drop a really good item if you manage to kill them. in addition, the level layouts change every time you play. so world 1-1 on game #3 will not be the same as 1-1 in games 1 + 2

2nd time i made it i lasted for about 10 seconds
the jungle isn't so bad, as long as you don't get a dark level in 2-3 or 2-4. protip: killing the giant wasps is well worth the effort. another protip: throw anything you can. a properly aimed rock or pot or skull is just about as good as a shotgun
but if you get lucky you can see a tall mechancial vertical structure in the ice caves which lets you bypass the pyramids to go directly to the alien ship. i've seen that option as early as 3-1
i'm having trouble nailing this concept down or making any kind of noticeable progress into either the pyramids or the alien ship because fucking tunnel man wants a key FROM THE MINES to open the tunnel to the pyramid level. completely unreasonable
