"Cloud storage."

Google gets 5 bucks a month from me for 100 GB
Dropbox gets a hundred bucks a year for 57 GB
iCloud... well, let's not talk about iCloud because it's kind of shitty and useless (like how could you be LESS useful than MobileMe, which was the fucking quadriplegic leper of cloud storage services)

Google's prices are fantastic

I'm finding their online interface and desktop application kind of terrible though.

DropBox is FLAWLESS.

But kind of expensive.

What do you use?

And what are the pros and cons in your book.

It's $0.125 per GB - first 1 TB / month of storage used (bandwidth extra).

Nice API too.

(I think everyone here knows I think Google are scumbags - this was reconfirmed for me this week.)

I had signed up last year for the $5 dollars for 20GB of space for Google.

This year I got an email saying that the year was almost up and that the plan I was using is no longer available and a link to manage my plans.

So I looked at how much space I was using and it was under the free threshold so I decided to NOT renew.

I clicked on the link Google had sent, and could find absolutely no way to opt-out of my plan -- but there was some text that said something like "Your plan is no longer offered, if you do not choose another plan we will not renew your storage, and your accounts may become disabled until you delete some files."

So, I thought to myself "Myself, it looks like you don't have to do anything. There is no cancel button to click. The plan will expire and you won't be charged and you aren't using the extra storage so everything will be okay."

Then I get this email:

---
Hi there,

Our records indicate that you've elected to renew your Google Paid Storage subscription for an additional year. However, we were unable to process the payment using the default credit card provided in your Google Checkout account.

At this time, your quota has been downgraded to the Basic Plan. If you would like to continue using paid storage, you can upgrade your account at any time by visiting your account management page. If you have any questions, please visit our help center.

-The Google Storage Team
---

So they AGAIN tried to bill me for something I did not want. They've hidden or obscured the option to cancel/not renew my plan, then they try to automatically bill me .

Once you give Google your credit card number they will bill you even when you do not want them to bill you.

They are either bad at customer service, SCUMBAGS, or both.

(Dropbox seems a lot more trustworthy.)

google are complete ripoff artists

or you're a rabid fanboy who would type all that instead of actually finding the option to cancel

https://www.google.com/settings/storage/

there's a big button that says downgrade your account.

you mouseover it.

the box pops up telling you you can downgrade to a free account.

you click.

THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT

it's one click from your gmail page.

but no, the problem is that google are scumbags. they're such scumbags, they made it take TWO FUCKING CLICKS to owngrade to the free account.

let's see if you have any integrity or if you invent more things to bitch about.

You get 7Gigs free, but as a gift to early adopters I now have 25 Gigs free that would otherwise have cost me $10 a year.
