Prime example of polictics at work...
Schilling and the former Gov. of RI talked and shored up this deal before he left the office...
Elected Gov. Chafee was against it and rightfully so...and now he's going to be blamed for the failure of the company.
They spent 50 million in a year and had not too much to show for it. They needed to sell 3 million copies of the game just to break even. Sucks for the employees though...RI already has the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the country.

Common sense should tell you the "lol" wasn't due to people losing their jobs. I'm sure you'll spit some stupidity about what dude should have written or how he should have goose stepped to avoid your "I can't wait to snark" reflexes, or one of your typically cliched internet swag 50 character headline bullshit responses, but try to be a reasonable human being for once.

all kinds of articles about the game and his company. Good reviews of the game. Then BAM! It's all done. I don't keep track of game sales but needing your first title to sell 3 million in order to break even? Those are some big numbers.

Seriously, budget for 1mil copies as a target, then anything extra is bonus ... but setting an original IP up and just expecting it's going to block bust is some wacky kind of thinking ...
Nobody should have ever ok'd this deal knowing that detail.

which was probably the main money pit.
The game they released was sort of a weird "spinoff before the source material is out" type of thing, and was successful, but not successful enough to cover a studio of 350+ people or whatever the fuck it was.
