"fez, i guess"

can't believe there isn't a post...

so after playing for about 4 hours and being generally impressed + a little intrigued but not really getting what all the hype was about i heard jeff gerstmann wax manic/rhapsodic about how ker-azy the game eventually gets i dove back in for a few mintues today and looked at it with new eyes. my thoughts so far:

what is with the machinery? i've seen a couple of what look like boilers but i don't know what they are supposed to be connected to

i'm trying to make sense of the treasure maps and diagrams but i can't. i'm following jeff's advice and just going forward until it clicks

the city: is that an "alien" language i'm meant to decipher? maybe it has something to do with the anti cubes? i'm thinking those are the directions for how to unlock them

unlocking achieved. LOL

the more i play this game the more interesting it becomes. it seems that it is MUCH deeper than it intially appears to be. as i understand, the internets has yet to crack this game completely open, which says a lot about it

anyone else pick this up? i saw chillinchief playing it earlier today

I don't think I've figured anything that Jeff was talking about. I noticed some of the pictures on the walls of the village house show up as places later in the game but that's about it so far.

I am enjoying it, though. There are a bunch of cool call backs to old Nintendo games scattered throughout the world, particularly Zelda references (the little pixie saying "Hey, listen!" at one point, treasure chests, etc.).

How long is the game anyway?

I was also surprised there hadn't been a post with all the hype this game has had. Really enjoyed playing for the small amount I had a chance to. But I want to finish up ME3 before moving onto something else.

It's intriguing with its complex puzzles and riddles while encompassing the atmosphere, whether the music or the environment. It's quite enjoyable. I 100% the game last night but from Giant Bomb and IGN this goes beyond the 100% and gives you more. I'm looking forward what's up next but I can see this is the only beginning. I also agree, the music is excellent. I highly recommend at least 100% and try to find all 32 'cubes'.

I dunno if it's because I'm not paying attention, but is the warping random?

On another note, I figured out that "wrap-around" explosion completely by accident.

I was seriously hating on those bombs at first.

But the "wrap-around" thing makes total sense. This game is all about perception, so if you're not warping yours to actually see an object explode – then it doesn't explode. On some 'tree falling in the woods with nobody there to hear it' shit.

Once I figured it out I was kinda glad the game doesn't explain it to you.

but they resold a game I already thought was enjoyable but I'm waitin until I move this weekend to hop back on plus I have Trials eating at my soul and my kids enjoy watching it.

Yeah GiantBomb needs a check cut for that one.

The only game I need to cop now is Journey, which will be a day one in my new apartment game.

ummm, nah. I like a good puzzle, but this is too much for me.

I finally got stuck to the point that I was just revisiting the same rooms over + over and accomplishing nothing, so I looked for some clues on the internet, and apparently I'm supposed to be deciphering this language? I mean, I *thought* there might be something to that, but I'm not really trying to cryptogram all that, and man they REALLY could have taken the time to be a bit more explicit about it. sigh ... I hate having to resort to online help, but it appears that's the only way I'm advancing in this game. real shame -- I've adored it up till now, but I've hit the wall of frustration from which there is no return.

I have to say, though, my enthusiasm is MAJORLY dampened by this.

and I saw this given as a clue, too, as essentially the only thing you need to know, and I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what it meant, but after mentioning it to the g/f, she explained it to me and I get it now. so anyway, reading the thing I put under spoiler tabs below may or may not be a big clue or meaningless to you, but either way I can tell you if you can decipher it, you will be able to solve 100% of the game:

As a result, I keep mentally trying to rotate my apartment 90 degrees on an axis of some sort.

I'm not much of a gamer, DEFINITELY not a mathematician, and never considered myself much of a puzzle enthusiast... But this game is fucking dope. It's gorgeous, it's fun, it's challenging without being frustrating (so far), and it's one of those games that actually mess with the way you perceive the real world. I'm actually dizzy right now, typing this.

Screen randomly went black on me so I decided to call it a night. Hopefully I'm not starting over from scratch next time I turn on my X-Box. Anyone else having problems?

lol

dunno if that's what happened to you, but nah I didn't have any problems. I discovered a glitch inside houses where I could fall outside the walls (by jumping in the corners then rotating different directions like a madman while I'm in the air), but that was the only problem I encountered. there are some weird moments where soundtrack morphs a bit and the screen warps, it's supposed to happen, don't worry...

I'm proud of myself for figuring out what I needed to do conceptually... I've never been good at math or spatial reasoning – I get lost walking through my own neighborhood all the damn time. So it feels my heart with hope when something clicks in this game.

But as for the execution, I basically just pushed blocks around randomly until they were arranged the way they were supposed to. SHRUG.

I feel like it's about to get to the point where I need a pad and pencil to figure these things out. And that frightens me.

But I'm determined not to look for cheats online... Though I'm tempted to, just to see how someone would even articulate how to cheat in a game like this.

and this is the same clue I dropped above. it's just a clue, doesn't actually "tell" you anything, but if you get so stumped that you are stuck (which is what happened to me) I would say start by looking here, see if it does anything for you. it's just a sentence, but if deciphered, it should give you the tools you need to solve any puzzle. so spoilers below for a cryptic hint that people can look at if they're stuck, but don't want it all spoiled:
