It doesn't fit any agendas. He's not black. Folks like him. He's played in the fantasy football era and won folks $. And the super bowl validates most exaggerations to some. He's the most beloved 'stats' qb ever....similar to how Favre is nfl history's most beloved 'fuck up' qb.
I've said for years that if Peyton can't beat you presnap, he can't beat you...at least not regularly. And certainly not 'late in the play' if things don't go his way after the snap. As he's gotten older, it has gotten worse. He can't regularly make high-end adult qb throws anymore. And he was always a little shaky in that regard. It might be over.
He shouldn't be disregarded historically but he's somewhat obviously overrated by those that say he's the hands down best ever with his longevity and stats as his exhibits. He was grand conceptually like a coach can be. He clearly outworked the league for years.
BUT
9 one and dones, several poor big-game showings and lack of 'playmaking'...maaaan. And hey...he threw a pick six to cement a loss in a super bowl. And then he lost another super bowl 43-8. If that's his goofy little brother, down the flight of stairs Eli goes.
