Report: Raptors and Kings near agreement on Rudy Gay trade Dec 8 2013, 7:07 PMBlake Murphy According to a report from Yahoo Sports, the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings are engaged in trade talks centered around forward Rudy Gay.
It's presently unclear what possible return is being discussed, just that talks are ongoing and getting close to finality.
Gay earns $17.9 million this season and has a player option for $19.3 million for 2014-15. With Gay playing poorly, it seems less likely he would decline the option in favor of a long-term contract, as the market for his services may be soft.
The Kings could offer some moderate salary relief by packaging Marcus Thornton and John Salmons in the deal. Both players are under contract for 2014-15, like Gay, but Salmons' $7 million salary is non-guaranteed.
It seems a lot to ask for the Raptors to receive more than just financial relief, given his exorbitant salary and the face that Gay is shooting a career-worst 38.8 percent and averaging 19.4 points on a ridiculous 18.6 shot attempts per game.
