Okay. Let's talk about Jessica Jones Season 2. I've finally finished all 13 episodes. And this season was a mixed bag. I think season 1 was better to be honest. Kilgrave was a much more compelling and charming bad guy.
This season suffered from what ALL the Marvel Netflix shows suffer from. It dragged on too long. I feel like these seasons should be 10 episodes long. Thirteen episodes is entirely too much for the thin stories these Marvel shows are trying to tell.
If they don't reduce the episode count, the least they can do is produce at least three "standalone" episodes that do not directly relate to the season long narrative. Episode after episode of the main arc causes viewer fatigue in my opinion. Them sticking to the 13 episode season makes it feel like they are trying to unnecessarily stretch the story out. Relatedly, the first half of the season was better than the second half. Once Marvel shows switch the main antagonist to a new one, the show peters out.
Jessica: She really didn't show any development as a character this season. At the end she has dinner with Oscar and Vido, but other than that. She was the same a-hole all season long. She treated Malcolm like trash and all he wanted to do was help.
Malcolm: So he was hitting up Tinder? And? That's his vice? Dude was pretty much faultless this season as far as I'm concerned. He made a mistake in believing Trish, but dude's heart was in the right place. He wanted to help Jessica, people and do the right thing. And he gets manipulated by Trish and dumped on by Jessica.
Trish: Ugh. The worst. She was so annoying all season. Everything she did was bad. She took advantage of Malcolm on multiple occasions. She ruined her relationship with her boyfriend. She ruined her career. She betrayed her "sister" and killed her sister's mom. There's no way her and Jessica can get back to what they were after that. If they become cool again in future seasons, I will be very disappointed in the writers.
Alisa: Yeah. It was an interesting twist at first that Jessica's mom was alive and super powered. But that got boring real quick. Especially since it was clear they were going to stretch her story out all the way to the end. I honestly think, a better story would have been Jessica finding her mother but also finding out that there was another vigilante in the city that was going around killing powered people and Jessica and her mother were on the killer's list. If they buttressed the back half of the season with that storyline, I would have found that more engaging.
Jeri: Well, she's a miserable SOB isn't she? Right when you start to feel empathy towards her, she shows her true colors. She pretty much screws any and everybody to reach her goal. Even while she faces death, she still is trying to "win".
Overall, I thought this season was okay. Season 1 was better IMO. I would give this a letter grade of C+.
