I wish he would focus more on the straight horror/suspense because he still has some skill in that department. The comedy in this movie was ok other than the rapping misstep, but the drama attempts failed miserably imo. And having two child actors as leads is very rarely a good idea. Overall they were more annoying/distracting than anything. There was also a huge lull in the movie before the twist was revealed and I very nearly fell asleep.
When it comes to mixing horror with other genres, I'll stick with Del Toro. I assume Crimson Peak will shit all over this.
