Revanche -

My new favorite film of the year. Anticipated this highly ever since I read that it was the first first-run film that Janus Films acquired in like 20-something years or something like that and a Criterion DVD was guaranteed. Anyway, I'll say that I found the cinematography, acting, mood, and economical editing and compositions outstanding. It's a great unconventional revenge film that also takes a look at sex in different ways. I loved where the film ended up going. And while it's not your usual revenge film and it has a plot that won't defy plot expectations, the acting is first-rate and the storytelling so sure that how "predictable" it could be for some viewers didn't cross my mind until after the viewing. Easily the 2nd best Criterion Collection film from this decade.

Explicit Ills -

Well, this film has a cast of Rosario Dawson, Black Thought, Dukie, Detective Holly, Naomie Harris. It was directed by actor Mark Webber. Just couldn't stop my mind from wandering. Didn't like what I saw so I stopped it at the 30-minute mark or thereabout. I did like the color tones in the cinematography. And while a Google image search of Frankie Shaw is underwhelming, she looked damn fine in the film with her makeup and sounded sexy with her scratchy voice.

Answer Man -

I love Jeff Daniels so I decided to check this one out. Middling flick. Not a waste of time, though.

New Year Parade -

Can't hate on this labor of love which was shot over 3-4 years. A film that sets a broken down family against a backdrop of the New Year Parade in South Philadelphia. The South Philly String Band allowed the filmmakers to film their practices and stuff and to drop the actors in as well. The film, though, is mostly about the separated parents and the love lives of their son and daughter, respectively. A very very weak recommendation for people that like small small movies.
