Although the real-deal two-day weekend event isn't until next week, the fest officially starts tomorrow with a "Half Marathon" and a series of free "Jazz Talks." This year's artist-in-residence is Meshell Ndegeocello. Some of the festival's highlights include the Roy Hargrove Celebration at the Lincoln Center. And organizers recently announced a DJ set with Gilles Peterson and Mark de Clive-Lowe on January 10.
I'll be there as I'll be in town for my birthday weekend trip. I bought a full pass for Day 2. I am so blown by the schedule conflicts, tho. As a result, I will likely miss Mark de Clive-Lowe, Butcher Brown, Kandace Springs and some others I want to check out.
Once I enter the Bowery 'round 7 p.m., I ain't leaving. I'm looking forward to seeing what special surprise guest Chris Dave will bring out for his set. It doesn't start until 1 a.m. (!!!!)
