It sounds like he's trying to innovate in a similar way as he did on The Outsider. Most people, including myself, don't care for the album. But it was really bold to try something new and unsafe when he had the name to milk his early success for quite some time. It also had moments where blending his style to the different emcees worked well.
As much as I like his approach to the way he structures his music, it is time for him to move on. Like he said, Endtroducing was as refreshing as it was innovative and original when it was released and I get the sense from some of his press, that he's wanted for some time to move on from the style he created early in his career and try and shake up hip-hop again.
