I'm not going off of punchlines and metaphors. I'm going off of the music they've put out, how well they can hold my attention behind the mic, songwriting & structure...
1. Diamond D - I'm a little shocked at this pick, but song for song I think he may be the best. Dude is always in the pocket and his raps are remarkably engaging. I haven't heard "Diam Piece" though, so I reserve the right to change his rank after that.
2. Big L - Lyrically he was Lord Finesse on steroids. He had everything except charisma & a cool voice.
3. Lord Finesse -The original PLK, but his long winded-ness and set-up line/punchline style brought down the quality of his music. He did have the charisma and cool voice that L lacked though.
4. Fat Joe/AG tie - "It's mostly the voice" These guys are up & down lyrically, but have distinctive voices & great mic presence. Give them a good beat and they're good money.
5. OC - still dope, but for whatever reason his raps are more forgettable than the others. I don't know, I find his raps to be a little boring, maybe a little more pretentious than the rest.
