Particularly around that time with the producers/means/vibe, it wasn't hard to do straight ahead boom bap (aka Muddy Waters).
But the unhinged imagination in this album? It was on some Sgt. Pepper Shit. It's what happens when someone is at the top of their powers and just gets full reign to do what the fuck they want to do and it shows.
Everything from the little surf rock sample in the beginning of green island, to many WTF moments in "Tonights The Night Remix"...it's just a great creative and COHESIVE album like you pointed out.
