I don't hear any "Vegas". Name the track (I mean the GCS 2000-style "funk" or the funk music with the actual horns in place of "horns", that does not sound like the classic Leeds/Bliss combo.)
What I do hear:
I hear some OONTZ/Daft Punk parody/Dubstep attempts ("Art Official Cage", "Funknroll" remix) Some attempts at the classic Prince sound, mileage varying ("Gold Standard", "Breakfast Can Wait", "Clouds") A personal song or two ("My Way Home", "Breakdown") A Prince-style ballad ("This Could Be Us") A couple of R&B appetizers ("U Know", "This is What It Feels Like") and finally some actual classic Prince ("Time")
for the most part, I don't hear Prince doing the kind of pandering that I associate with the lion's share of his Warners-released '90s projects. I hear him "trying to do current music", which is what he tried to do all over the last 20 or so years (with a few exceptions), only this time, he stuck to a theme and didn't let himself get lost into things he shouldn't be doing. No raps that don't sound like his "raps", no additional vocals, no Tony M (or stand ins), etc.
General consensus has been "good not great" and that "Prince, the guy who makes albums" is back, rather than "Prince, the guy who makes music, puts them together and releases them as an afterthought".
Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.
