I know the headphones are a business product, but I'm glad that Dr. Dre was able to make it this far off of something that's actually music-related. It's cool to see him push headphones and sound technology instead of clothing, liquor, random endorsements, etc. (not that anything's wrong with that; get it how you live).
I don't think the headphones have anything to do with Detox. But I think Dr. Dre is doing what many people in his situation would do: just doing what he loves without having to risk anything. I think Dr. Dre just loves making music, so that he's always going to do that - and that to him, there's no need to put it out, because the creation is the fun part, not putting it out and having people weigh it against the legacy he's already built.
Besides, I was counting the other day - Dr. Dre has executive produced or been the primary producer in about 11-13 albums that I heavily enjoy. That's saying a lot. He's already made a lifetime of music for me; I'd love to hear Detox (and I've heard that everything from it sounds great), but I'm not upset that he hasn't put it out. He's earned that right to just record shit without having to release it.
