BOBS is one of 3-4 pinnacle LPs of the independent backpack era. none of us give two shits if you think "it could've trimmed some fat". His and Talib's style and content pretty much solidified the attitude of heads not on gangster/big willy/jiggy/pimp shit.
TFA is the Roots best album and the first piece of their eventual cross over.
Operation: DOOMSDAY is arguably Doom's best penned album and had a feel and sound that has been rarely approached by DOOM himself and cheap imitators. there are few records that are as personal, dark and imaginative as OD
even uneven LPs like Black Out, Vol. III and I Am came to define the east coast sound from 00-04, no matter if you or I didn't not "love" that sound.
also albums like Prince Among Thieves and How's Your Girl were trying to be creative in the way they approached making a rap album.
and since most of us are backpack/underground/east coast bias, we've been ignoring how much Hot Boys/Wayne/BG (aka Manny Fresh) changed the sound of commercial rap in 98/99
You're right, Give me 96, 94, 00, 93, 97, 91, 92, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 98 over 99, but for as thin as it was, like any year it had it's pieces
