"Why so many stars out of VA?"


          

Particularly with hip hop/rnb music?

Hampton Roads isn't known for much other than being a suburban military town with a beach. Why has it produced so many urban pop stars?

Maybe not so much now, but we've seen the following all come out of Hampton Roads (Norfolk/Va Beach/Hampton/etc):

- timbaland and magoo
- missy elliot
- pharrell/neptunes/NERD
- aaliyah
- ella fitzgerald

And then in Richmond you've got D'angelo.

What's the deal?
