Fashion is a bit different, but with both, there are throwback periods that just appeal to the youth while some periods don't appeal much at all. I'd say that the early 90's music and fashion was just so dominant that it will always have some appeal...but the late 90's commercial music and fashion will NEVER make a return in the same way. A lot of songs I hear on radio flip and sample the early and mid 90's, and the 80's have been getting sampled since the 80's...but that late 90's and early 2000's? I just honestly don't see it.
And I know you're gonna say "it's too early to tell" but nah....why is it that New Jack Swing was never sampled much? Aside from a few songs that flipped "Piece of my love" and even fewer that sampled "Poison"....that period was extremely dominant at the time, but was TOO trendy/fresh to the point that it will never be recycled unless something drastic happens. Even with the Bass/Booty music...I think certain elements of that may re-appear, but not as a whole.
