But even right now when I'm trying to remember the R&B acts I dug in the 90s, it's hard to think of any male groups or solo artists of either gender.

We were still riding that early-90s reverence for harmony singing that came after Milli Vanilli... so I definitely still had a thing for vocal groups. The whole "New Jill Swing" thing *was* viewed at the time as bringing a certain new dimension to R&B.
