as i understand it, "hip-hop" is taught at some junior colleges or whatever as a course you can get credits for... the poster ninthwonder on here teaches it i think. anyway, going through this list and listening to every one of these songs with the accompanying video should be a challenge they issue in one of those courses. sure it's all roses glossing over the "socio-political" ramifications of cherry-picked 1988-1994 new york hip-hop or whatever highfaluting bullshit they would do in a "hip-hop college course". but if you want to take on the genre at an elite level you should be put in a room and made to listen to this period. no dissertation or thesis finding merits in it, just: can. you. stomach. this? although it would completely discredit the "con" of a hip-hop course being taught in post-secondary schools... it would be interesting to see who could last. kind of like BUD/S training for the navy s.e.a.l.s
