"Surreal Black Art: Does Sorry To Bother You have antecedents?"
Sun Jul-08-18 01:30 AM by spirit

Putney Swope comes to mind (white director notwithstanding). Spike Lee inserted some surreal moments in some of his films, usually in the endings. But I can’t think of a Black film prior to this that made me audibly say “what the fuck?” (under my breath, of course) before this one. Fools were full on talking to the screen near the end in my cinema lol

I feel like I’m missing an obvious antecedent? Sweet

Idlewild had some weird moments. I definitely liked Sorry way more than Idlewild though.

Didn’t Sun Ra have a movie? Space is the Place?

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)
