He's largely stopped reading though outside of comics (though I can't really complain about his tastes there) and the occasional humorous sci fi (loves Douglas Adams, again I can't complain.)
It's very very gratifying when the kids love stuff I loved as a kid (and it's also great finding that some of that stuff also still holds up well). And constantly being on the lookout for new stuff that we'll all enjoy, I've read a lot of great things from the past 30 years that I was "too old for" as it was released.
Another option is audiobooks for car trips... great opportunity to turn down time into literature time.
