Erykah Badu’s One Human Show In Dallas Promises To Shock-And-Awe

Avid fans and lovers of the soul-drenched sounds of Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter, Erykah Badu, are familiar with her down home Dallas, Texas roots.

The Booker T. Washington High School grad has been entrancing us for more than 20 years, proving to be a world-class performer and truly special innovator. As she has yet to get her Don Cornelius on as the host of the 2015 Soul Train Awards, Badu is presenting a new show of sorts in her hometown at the institution where she learned and honed her craft, The Black Academy of Arts and Letters.

Dubbed Erykah Badu: Live Nudity — Meditate On Deez, Badoula Oblongata showcases her icon status to a raptured audience. The three-night event at TBAAL, which starts October 29th, finds Badu as the focal point of attention in this one-woman (or “one-human,” as the legend prefers) dramatic piece that will find her acting, singing, dancing and, in some cases, improvising.

The candid stage show will debut as a two-act piece as part of a packed 39th season for The Black Academy of Arts and Letters. As the chief architect behind such a bold production, Erykah Badu has come face-to-face with one of her greatest ambitious: to take another gigantic leap of faith to push the culture forward. In Live Nudity, Badu received encouragement from a familiar persona in TBAAL’s long-running history. Curtis King, better known as Uncle Curtis, shared words of empowerment to Badu to get her to get over her jitters.

The question on everyone’s minds and lips is: Will Badu be in the buff? She memorably broke the Internet before Kim Kardashian and a legion of others when she showed off her body in her controversial 2010 music video, “Window Seat,” which was directed by Coodie and Chike at Dallas’ historic Dealey Plaza. With Live Nudity two years in the making and finally coming to fruition, Badu seems poised and excited to share her latest creation with the public.

Audiences should know to expect the unexpected when it comes to the eccentric Erykah Badu. Interested parties can catch it at her performance at the Naomi Bruton Main Stage beginning Thursday, Oct. 29, Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. TBAAL members are able to get in for the special price of $18.50, while regular admission tickets are $40 (mezzanine), $45 (orchestra) and $100 (opening night VIP reserved seating).
