"So I didn't get the job because of my hair... Lol "
Sigh, like I'm just really disappointed. I interviewed with a company about a month and a half ago. A friend of mine had actually told me to contact her friend because they needed to fill a manager's position at her company.
I interviewed with that friend and it went extremely well. I wound up interviewing three more times at their head quarters with the Vice President, and president of the company. Every interview had gone better than the previous. Everyone loved me! The president of the company had even asked and wrote down my salary requirements.
They said they'd contact me within the week. Never heard from anyone, and no one responded to my e-mails.
Now fast forward to yesterday. I finally hear from my friend who referred me. Well turns out there was quite a fuss up there about me. Now this is just what I was told but I totally believe it. She says that when her friend had asked what happened with hiring me, they told her that I had dreads and that did not fit with the company's image or dress code policy. She says she took the matter up with HR. Who knows? I believe this only because the second time I was called to come to their corporate office, the lady literally asked me two questions, and asked me did I have any questions for her. I said to myself then, that bitch just wanted to see me because there was no other reason to have me come up there!!
My hair the exact day of my second interview http://i62.tinypic.com/2hy8o4o.jpg . I was very polished and poised. I'm still interviewing and I have recently taken my braids out. I guess I'll wait before putting some back in. It is what it is but it still sucks to hear that. All because of my hair? I was more than qualified for the position and got a long well with everyone. Left every interview laughing and smiling. Now I'm wondering if that could've been the reason I didn't get another job in which I applied to but met the same fate with. Multiple interviews, everyone loved me but again I never heard anything back?
It's a dirty game. Any other women go through this? What's funny is my friend who referred me actually suggested I get my hair braided or wear a wig to the interview because at the time I was rocking my fro... The irony. Should've gone with the wig!
