You've started working (or volunteering) with Dems, correct? Or do I have that wrong?
If so, do you get the sense that there is (or could be) some momentum on this stuff? Are there plans in place?
I'll be honest, I tried volunteering for the local Congressional candidate, and I ended up getting frustrated with the a)lack of a plan and b) lack of support from the party.
I know its one small example, but for instance- this particular campaign's plan was to canvass independents and REGISTERED REPUBLICANS.
I nearly threw my hands in the air.
I get canvassing independents, and I can even get the logic that there isn't enough resources to canvass registered Dems, but spending time talking to people who have actually taken the effort to register as R? I don't get it.
It seems to me that at some point, the Dem party at all levels needs to work more on registering new voters.
On this small example, lets even be charitable and assume they have a 10% conversion rate...so out of every 10 Rs they talk to,they actually win 1 vote.
I refuse to believe that you wouldn't get more success talking to people who aren't registered, registering them to vote, and locking them in to vote Dem. Maybe you can only talk to fewer people in that time, but I gotta believe your success rate would be higher.
To me, the Dems need to cast a wider net- and not to try and catch moderate Rs.
But to grab people who don't typically pay attention.
For instance, I get that young people SHOULD be more excited to vote. And I sincerely do get frustrated with their apathy, because its terrible times and I don't understand how they aren't more motivated.
BUT
The Dems should still be working on this. Do the Dems have a youth plan?
To sum up, it seems to me that Dems are counting on moderate Rs to vote for them...and to your point up above, the party is all in on Trump. I hope the party kicks this habit of trying to appeal to something that doesn't even really exist anymore...there is no such thing as a moderate who is temporarily okay with white supremacy, sexism, etc...if they were going to leave their party, they would have already done it.
