>I once punched a pigeon

(shoutouts to CAU)

my first experience with georgia pigeons..

running across the AU-side quad trying to get to then named Sage-Bacote Hall (back before they put up the little chain "fence" to try and keep folks ... like me.. from putting trails across the grass)

so in front of me several paces there is a hole in the ground with the largest pigeon i have ever seen perched inside

straight up, this thing was the size of a adult medium-sized housecat

so large, in fact, i thought it was a rock at first

i'm running toward it, fully expecting it to fly away - as pigeons with a healthy fear of humans are want to do

backstory: i come from a place where pigeons are lithe. fast moving, darting even, little creatures who will eat popcorn or bread you toss out at a park

not a lot existed, but enough to be a thing

rewind back to bigbird's country cousin in ATL, again this thing not only DOESN'T move, it watches me approach and looks at me like "ni&&a you see me sitting here don't you??!?!"

a pigeon was playing chicken with me (it blew my mind)

i was in a hurry so i hopped over it and kept moving

the bird watched me pass overhead, following the arc like it was a 80's football movie slomo

i go to class and an hours later am headed back and wouldn't you know birdzilla is still there

at this point i walk toward it, making noise to see if this thing is truly brolic or maybe lethargic (considering it was big as all hell, maybe it was like one of those fat people that need a crane to get out of bed)

it was at this point that my mind went to the number of homeless folks in ATL constantly begging for money for "a little something to eat"

my thought then, homeless folks should be eating these birds

yeah, i know disease (bird flu?) and bugs...maybe

catch it, kill it, pluck it, roast that mug

even with "the ick" its probably better for you than mcdonalds
