I was pumping gas last week in the city. Homeless guy is going from car to car, asking people for "a couple dollars to get something to eat". I see the last guy give him something. He comes to the back bumper on the opposite side of the car and asks me for a couple of dollars. I tell him to give me a second while I finish pumping and I got him (in the past, I've been extremely charitable to homeless people). I finish, hang up the pump and pull out my wallet to get 2 dollars (I have 7 dollars cash and have other plans for the 5. Remember I said he was on the opposite side of the car? As I pull out the 2 bux, he says "Oh, OH, I really need 5 because I was tryna get a value meal!" THAT right there is the worst thing you can do when asking me for money on the street. Don't get all in my business like that. I gave him the "wtf" look and said "I need the 5 for something else" while thinking "I really shouldn't even be explaining myself to this mufucka. I went ahead and gave him the 2 tho, because he did look terrible. I watched him ask the next guy, and he did the same thing to him. He then left the lot, as the guy he asked after me was the last car on his journey through the lot. As I drove away, I wondered what his story is, like I always do. I also figured that tactic must work out well for him, since he keeps doing it. Then I wondered if he came up with it out of need or greed. Who knows.
