I don't know if its just me, but does it seem like the MC's that have "emerged" in the past few years have been less inspired in their flow? Or could it be that's just the trend in this specific sector of hip hop?
I guess I'm talking about who has come out as a "big deal" as a new cat in so-called "street" hip hop:
Example number 1:

Now to me Saigon is one of the most promising newer MC's. And these lyrics are definitely on point - but his flow, although energentic, lacks a lot of highs and lows - everything is spit the same, not too much inflection... its hyped, but... its hard to explain, maybe like hes trying to hard to "spit lyrics:
Now, a young "emerging" rapper over a decade ago:

the flow is still strong, but just to me, more engaging... like hes speaking directly to me, instead of just spitting lyrics into the abyss. Tellin a better story perhaps. I know the 2 examples dont match up perfectly

Papoose aint bad... but notice how every line ends downward, in terms of pitch, decrescendo, etc... again I feel like the flow is catering to the cadence of the lyrics, tha actual words.... instead of the feel, or to speak to the listener...
Does anyone else feel this way? There's exceptions, of course... I hear a lot of engaging Dialogue from Lupe, but even he has room to grow...
Could it be a trend of rap in general in recent years.... or that new cats are getting into the game/spotlight so much earlier in their development, that they still dont have it down yet?
