for some, an MFA program gave them that technical training needed to get into filmmaking...
BUT you can also get a lot of the very experience they are PAYING for (and MFA programs cost between $90K-$130K TOPS if you go to UCLA, NYU or Columbia so COST is another thing to think about when applying!) by being a PA on a film set, apprenticing under an editor, cinematographer, etc.
it really depends on what you think is best for you in getting into the industry....
