don't see it in my copy. elaborate?
this would make a dope book. going around the country on playgrounds and documenting the variations in rules. i knew south jersey rules, philly rules, brooklyn rules, and columbus, OH rules, due to relatives or home turf. then DC and MD rules from school. oh yeah, and now NC rules. there'd be that awkward few moments when somebody from outta town wanted to play, and then the exchange where you go through the terminology and the general rules, and it was like, "bingo", we talkin bout the same shit. shoot for first.
that, to me, was always a beautiful thing about the culture.
as far as boards, you sayin whoever shot would get 'set back' to 0 or 13 if you got a 'tap in' (put back the re without touching the ground?). that's interesting.
sometimes (if you were playing w/ cats who wanted to baskethang), we'd play 'take it back' -- which is on some hood gentleman shit -- basically, no cherry pickin. if you get a rebound, you got to dribble out to about 15 or 20 feet (towards foul line, or sideline) and then try and score -- that way you had to face the whole defense.
considering every brotha i know (including heads from college who repped dc, md, ny, nj, boston, chi, etc) played some variation of this game while coming up, its always been surprising to me that brothas on college and pro teams didn't shoot a better free throw percentage. hmm, maybe it was the absence of waving arms and mama jokes.
