If your main library is on a media PC and you have a small library on a laptop or another desktop you can sync, merge, and one way sync your ipod/libraries over the network. It works cross platform. I think the only catch is you have to let iTunes organize your files. I'm using it the free trial now, main library on the PC and small library on the Macbook (collapop). I think this will be the 1st piece of software I have to pay for. I can't find a crack anywhere.
