2686941, KD to media: "I just don't trust none of y'all" Posted by woodsen2, Thu Feb-07-19 03:29 AM

I kind of liked this from KD. These reporters might as well work for TMZ. There's almost no difference between a Warriors postgame press conference and a player getting ambushed at LAX by some guy with a camera.
And the owners and the league love it because people are talking about the NBA year-round and there's drama and Twitter buzz. Meanwhile your average fan doesn't even watch games.
At some point the basketball has to matter.

link: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2819624-report-kevin-durant-thought-hed-be-seen-as-better-than-lebron-after-17-finals
"Kevin Durant apparently wants to be seen as the best player in the world. The public's unwillingness to see him as such is reportedly among the reasons Durant could leave the Golden State Warriors this summer.
Ethan Strauss of The Athletic reported Durant "believed" defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2017 NBA Finals would have allowed him to usurp James as the de facto best player in basketball.
Of course, that did not happen. James put together a Herculean effort in defeat, becoming the first player to average a triple-double in an NBA Finals. And while Durant won the Finals MVP honors, most viewed James as the best player in the series.
Durant won his second Finals MVP against James' Cavaliers last season, but again no changing of the guard happened.
A 10-time All-Star and 2014 league MVP, Durant has never been seen as the best player in basketball. He's spoken openly about his desire to move out of the "second-place" mantle, but there have even been questions about whether he's the best player on his own team since signing with Golden State."
|
2686954, Its sad how bad a circle of advisers he has. Posted by Orbit_Established, Thu Feb-07-19 08:08 AM
Not only did the Golden State move mean he couldn't supplant Lebron at the top, he might have cost himself a place on or near Rushmore.
Did he really think joining a 73 win team and winning would get him there? Who told him that?
Really bad career management.
He is a better basketball player than Kobe Bryant, by a lot. He won't end his career above Kobe on any all time lists.
|
2686959, Maybe he was advised to not do any of it. As a grown man and the one in... Posted by Creole, Thu Feb-07-19 08:36 AM
charge, he chose to anyway. So, he has to eat it all unless if this is the case. I'm charging him with all of it. If he did follow his advisers' advice, then they're all whores.
It's debatable that he's a 'better player' than Kobe was. I definitely agree that, because he's got so much bitchassedness in him, he'll never be seen on that level. And he's not even the MVP on his own team. They kinda suck, comparatively, when Steph ain't there.
|
2686962, the end game is chips tho. Posted by tariqhu, Thu Feb-07-19 08:55 AM
he put himself in position to compete on a a consistent basis. being known as the best player is cool and all, but he went there for chips.
had he gone to a team that was rebuilding, he still wouldn't be called the best player.
|
2686963, a lot, and yeah he will Posted by bshelly, Thu Feb-07-19 09:06 AM
\ >He is a better basketball player than Kobe Bryant, by >a lot. He won't end his career above Kobe on any all >time lists.
It might take a while, but in the end the numbers are going to win out. Our kids won't understand why we hated on a 7 foot unstoppable perimeter scoring machine with at least three rings, just because he was corny.
but yeah, he's significantly better than Kobe Bryant, who is a top 15-20 player of all time. the presence of lebron has driven him insane and distracted all of us from how amazing he is.

2686979, 3 Things Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Thu Feb-07-19 09:45 AM
1. In the last 2 years, we’ve seen him rest his nuts on Lebron’s face twice in the Finals. And he still has years left to play & rings to get.
2. KD isn’t better than Kobe.
3. There hasn’t been a person created in life that is “a lot” better than Kobe Bryant at basketball.

2687135, Lebron is only slight better than Brandon Knight? Cool. Posted by Orbit_Established, Thu Feb-07-19 06:54 PM
>1. In the last 2 years, we’ve seen him rest his nuts on >Lebron’s face twice in the Finals. And he still has years >left to play & rings to get.
KD joined a 73-win team that was vanquished by the best all around player in history.
That team wins if they add Kyle Korver. They added KD.
Sorry, pal. Those are the facts.
>2. KD isn’t better than Kobe.
Yes, he is by a lot
>3. There hasn’t been a person created in life that is “a >lot” better than Kobe Bryant at basketball.
Its really not close

KD won 2 titles by outplaying Lebron in key moments. We all witnessed.
Your Lebron takes are pretty horrible. You've been a man with an island for what it seems like a decade now. Riding from wave to wave... right as they're about to die down. You got a dangling earring and flat top right now don't you?
Take that dangling OE out your ear. Go to the barber. And act like you've got some sense fam.

2687145, Lolz. Both Bron and KD played the 73-win Warriors in the 2016 'offs. Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Feb-08-19 12:44 AM
KD lost like a little wimp, joined the 73 win team.
Bron beat the 73 win team in one the most heroic effort in sports history.
Checkmate.
>KD won 2 titles by outplaying Lebron in key moments.
What key moments? The one where he came through in the clutch for his suffering 73 win team that he joined?
LMAO.
We all >witnessed.
Yeah, we witnessed him get beat by a 73 win team. And then Join them.
Lebron? Beat that team.

2687151, more like that smoke screen. Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Feb-08-19 06:38 AM
KD's Finals wins are essentially participation trophies, and that's why people are not putting him in that tier.
Had he won one or two in OKC, it would have been a debate. and KD has to know this.
this isn't the same as say... LeBron going to the first-round exit Heat. Or Shaq going to the just-drafted Kobe, not quite a contender Lakers.
we've not really seen something like that from a player of KD's caliber. and that perception >>>>>>> "reality"
KD ain't gonna get elevated until he elevates a team the way LeBron does.

2686964, If he wanted to make a long-term commitment to GS Posted by Marauder21, Thu Feb-07-19 09:17 AM
He would've done so. He didn't (as is his right) so he could keep all of his options open. Nothing wrong with that, but it's also the right of everyone else (including The Bad Lying Media Elites) to wonder if/when you're leaving.
Nobody felt sorry for Lebron when he took the Heat to their 4th straight Finals and everyone took it as a foregone conclusion he was going back to Cleveland, why is KD so special? Get another 90's hip hop related tattoo and STFU.

2686980, As a New York Knicks fan Posted by Numba_33, Thu Feb-07-19 09:47 AM
it's hard for me to put a huge ton of stock in all the Kevin Durant is coming to the Knicks talk for a variety of reasons, but I will say this: this dude would get cooked and eaten alive by New York City beat writers on a daily basis if he were to ever play for the Knicks.

2686994, According to Frank Isola Posted by Numba_33, Thu Feb-07-19 10:09 AM
Carmelo Anthony wasn't treated all that badly by the writers during his Knicks tenure because he was very ingratiating and welcoming to any and all beat writers. He was much more savvy about how he treated the media.
From what I remember, I don't think Carmelo was written about all that badly by the media, despite how poorly the Knicks as a team performed while he was here.
|
2686990, Yeah he's way too snowflakey to deal with that beast Posted by Amritsar, Thu Feb-07-19 10:02 AM

SOME kinda strong male figure who can get you in line when you start acting soft
cuz he does so much in the "bruh, for real?" lane its pitiful
and he CRAVES validation way too much
constantly swinging between "is *this* good enough for you to love me" and a weird, false, and petulant "I don't need you to like me, I like me"
so talented basketball wise, but so in need of some "get right"
|
2687027, The Bay Area media mostly treats him with kid gloves... Posted by mrhood75, Thu Feb-07-19 01:05 PM
...but I understand his reaction. I do think it was unnecessary to flash on Monty Poole at the end. He was just trying to ask about the game and doesn't traffic in rumor-mongering.
The "KD is going to the Knicks?!?!?!!?" story wasnt' started by writers around here, but writers like Strauss and Kurtenbach are certainly going for clicks with their "speculation." In interviews/articles today, the two of them are brushing the whole thing off as humorous.
KD would have been best served by following Kyrie's initial example over the summer: say you plan to stay with the team, and then emphasize you're not talking about it afterwards. Saying that you're going to be "transparent" then remaining largely silent beyond, "I want the most money" leaves too many opening for rumor mongers.
Regardless, he's still staying.

i was like, uh, did the video skip? did i just completely miss something else he said? i guess in the sense that he may have *said* that to someone else it could be a "fact" but he didn't really substantiate that in anyway. weird. it also makes no sense that durant would even believe that.
