Good Job, Goodell.

You thought you had your "Michael Jordan" moment, but nah.

(I suspect same thing will happen in NBA to a degree if LeBron's Team sinks this season. Hopefully someone good comes along in his stead, because shit's gonna be a tank w/o him. Shit... am I joining the LeBronies?)

"Whatever the cause, there’s a satisfying symmetry to the fact that the lowest scoring Super Bowl in history was watched by the fewest viewers in more than a decade. The result sucked, and the contest sucked, and the halftime show sucked, and also the ratings sucked."

2686703, I could see this happening

if Toronto makes it out of the East to face the Warriors in The Finals since their face of the franchise and best player is a fairly boring dude off the court and I'm not too sure how much Kawhii resonates on his own in terms of stardom among folks that don't mess to heavily with basketball. Among the other presumed top teams in the East (Boston, Philly, Milwaukee), I don't think a huge drop off in ratings will occur since their marquee players are recognizable enough for folks to have interest in the Finals.

Personally I enjoyed this game more than a blowout like SB 48 was. At least still was up for grabs in the 4th quarter and that quarter ended up being kinda exciting. If Pats actually scored on a few first half drives it would have been less interesting and prob would have turned it off completely tho.
2686715, Tough when most of LA is on twitter waiting for AD news
Posted by LA2Philly, Tue Feb-05-19 10:39 AM
I'm joking but sportscenter had a poll in LA on whether they'd rather have the Rams win the SB or AD get traded to LA....the latter won resoundingly.
2686723, it was a bunch of TV timeouts mixed in with a defensive battle
Posted by HecticHavoc, Tue Feb-05-19 11:34 AM
sporting events, professional and college, are being ruined bc of media timeout slots.

really? commercial, touch down, commercial, extra point, commercial, kickoff, commercial, 1st play of next possession.

That process shouldnt take 15minutes.
2686724, This means nothing
Posted by Ceej, Tue Feb-05-19 11:58 AM
If theyre trying to blame the game being shitty for people not watching, I would love someone to explain that nonsense to me. People WATCHED the fucking game. How else would they know if it was boring or not??

TV ads were expensive as fuck, per usual. This is dumb.
2686741, interesting spin but OK

2686743, LOL
Posted by Ceej, Tue Feb-05-19 01:33 PM
I can't imagine what you're going through.
2686744, If they watch the first half and don't come back for the second
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Feb-05-19 01:39 PM
2686782, yea no one is doing that in a 3 point game.
Posted by Ceej, Tue Feb-05-19 05:31 PM
2686823, Superbowl parties across america were watching shark tank in the 2nd half
Posted by Cenario, Tue Feb-05-19 11:25 PM
2686846, But kept the game on when it was 28-3??
Posted by Ceej, Wed Feb-06-19 08:44 AM
These numbers. mean. nothing.
2686848, If you are talking about the Pats being down 28 to 3. FUCK YEAH
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Feb-06-19 09:28 AM
2686858, oh
Posted by Ceej, Wed Feb-06-19 10:24 AM
2686854, I'll bet they probably did if they were casually watching
Posted by Marauder21, Wed Feb-06-19 10:02 AM
or not really invested.
2686859, Nobody is having a Super Bowl party and turning the game off, cmon
Posted by Ceej, Wed Feb-06-19 10:25 AM
Even the annoying people are still gonna keep it on for the dumbass commercials
2686961, and to see if they win their dumbass prop bets

2686760, Curious if New Orleans boycotting tanked the ratings
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Feb-05-19 03:10 PM
They had a 29 rating when it’s usually around 60 for the SB

It almost feels like this SB doesn’t even count because it was so ugly.
2686786, damn, a 6 rating?!?!
Posted by Basaglia, Tue Feb-05-19 05:45 PM
2686799, between LA not caring about fb. and saints fans boycotting
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Feb-05-19 08:27 PM
it makes sense.
2686815, And absolutely no wanting to watch the Pats again
Posted by smutsboy, Tue Feb-05-19 10:14 PM
I have Pats friends who weren't even that excited going into it.
2686832, Rams fanbase is small anyway
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Wed Feb-06-19 01:25 AM
Nobody in St. Louis still gives a fuck about them either

I'd be pissed as a fan if I flew across the country and paid big money for the team to score 3 points and Maroon 5 concert and a Big Boi appearance was the highlight

I didn't watch as a Saints fan but I was told by friends it was a boring ass game, Chiefs vs. Saints would have moved the needle.

2686855, maybe next time the chiefs and saints will win.

2686833, Just need 6 more owners to sign on

2686849, What gets better with goodell gone?

Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Fri Feb-08-19 01:53 PM
you are old enough to remember Paul Tagliabue right?

I'd much rather have someone like Adam Silver vs. Bud Selig
2687204, didn't the no-celebration thing happen under Goodell
Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Feb-08-19 01:59 PM
they brought it back, and it has produced some hilarious shit

but they took a stand on fuckin' Joe Horn and Chad Johnson for WHAT?

2686861, Super Bowl champion Josh Gordon!

The Pats got jobbed by the league. The story of the NFC ridiculous no-call overshadowed just about everything else that could’ve happened afterwards.

The assholes that run the nfl had the top 4 seeds in the final 4 and somehow managed to leave that weekend with the refs as the story. That alone should get somebody pulled in a room and cussed at fiercely.

I mean really. Brady. Brees. The 50 td-having MVP qb. And boy genius McVay. How do you fuck that up!?
