2684049, Prayers up for Nerlens Noel
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jan-09-19 10:23 AM
I usually try not to make brand new posts about one of my guys, but...I'm really worried about dude. He took a hard fall, last night against Minny. He went up for a contest at the rim on Wiggins. Wiggins caught him with an elbow to the head (I think Wiggins is a trash dude, but I don't think the bow was intentional). It looked like Nerlens was out in the air because he came down like a brick and didn't brace his fall, whatsoever. His head hit the court REALLY hard. They immobilized him and he was stretchered off. There have been no updates except he was immediately taken to the hospital. I'm not linking the video. I saw it live last night, plus several replays. I'm sure it's extremely easy to find, if you wanna see it. I hope dude doesn't have any long-term issues due to this. Sucks. He was playing so well and whether or not we were able to keep him after his season, it looks like he has his career back on track.

He wasn't unconscious in the air, he tried to brace his fall. But it was a nasty one. Not intentional and I hope he recovers. You see the staff giving that clenched fist, to signal medical emergency. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before.
2684061, ah, okay...they only showed the under the basket angle...

i thought it was fourth down

one of the scarier injuries i remember seeing, hoping it ends up looking worse than it is.

probably (I'm hoping) doing extensive MRIs and neurological testing right now before they make an announcement
2684082, ever notice how the concussion protocol in the NBA keeps players out
Posted by bentagain, Wed Jan-09-19 01:29 PM
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY longer than in the NFL

I think it was KLove a year or 2 ago...that missed months from a concussion

anyway, shouts to the homie

I was pulling for him in OKC

thought he really found a fit backing up Adams

and LOL@the foul call...FOH.
2684110, NBA is uber cautious with it.

2684086, It's just a matter of concussion severity now
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jan-09-19 02:04 PM
Getting knocked unconscious is generally associated with a more severe concussion. Silver lining, no facial or orbital fractures like Embiid had last year.
2684098, That's actually a relief

It looked BAD last night
2684101, Good news

2684105, Glad it’s just a concussion
Posted by chillinCHiEF, Wed Jan-09-19 03:30 PM
Looked like he could have had a more serious neck or head injury.
2684109, good update

i saw the story late last when i woke up in the middle of the night. the video did look bad. i couldnt tell if he was knocked out the whole time. very scary.
2684099, Hope he gets better soon.

Whoa, that was a touch watch. Especially seeing his head bounce off the floor.
2684114, One of the hardest clips to watch of recent memory.

Paul George was bad, Gordon Hayward was awful....this was Shaun Livingston level to me. I'm happy to hear he's only got a concussion, but I feared the absolute worst. Just terrible. And I felt for Wiggins too...that's a move made 100x a game.

2684156, it looked like it to me

i think i watched it two times from two different angles. the elbow hit looked much harder than the hit on the floor. i very well could had not watched close enough though.

2684158, watching the game live, I really didn't get the gist...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jan-10-19 10:27 AM
of it all. The 3 replays they showed were from under the backboard, out of bounds. It didn't look like he put an arm out to brace himself. Also, like you said, it was a hell of an elbow. Just so glad nothing is broken. The way he his head bounced off the floor...that's amazing.
2684185, In terms of fractures, the elbow was more concering
Posted by LA2Philly, Thu Jan-10-19 04:41 PM
Than his head hitting the floor like it did. An elbow like that has enough concentrated force to break a facial or orbital bone whereas hitting the side of your head distributes the force across the entire side of the face.
2684818, available tonight vs. the Lakers...

2684820, Fantastic news

His year's been so good, it would have been an incredible shame (and just an unfair fucking twist of fate) for anything major to have happened on that play. And with Roberson out for the long haul, OKC needed him for several reasons.
2684821, our front court defense has been struh-guh-ling...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jan-17-19 03:56 PM
when Stephen goes out. That's usually when Nerlens comes in. Lord, if I see Pat Patterson get sonned one more time trying to defend the other teams' big...
2684829, im trying and failing to think up a good Jerry Brisco joke
