2680437, CFB Saturday: Championship Week
Posted by will_5198, Fri Nov-30-18 11:47 PM
Washington just beat Utah in a 10-3 barnburner. game was so inept, the only TD was a bobbled pass that ended up in a gift pick-six.

also, The Oregonian just released a phenomenal expose on Larry Scott and the university presidents:

https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2018/11/pac-12-larry-scott-leftout-part1.html

basically the Pac-12 spends the most money, Scott makes the most money, and they have the lowest return on their investment both on the football field and financially.

* The Pac-12 office and the Pac-12 Networks studios occupy more than 100,000 square feet of space in the heart of downtown San Francisco, at a cost of $6.9 million in rent last year, with $11.7 million in additional deferred rent. The Big Ten Conference office makes its primary home in suburban Chicago and also, has a satellite office in New York. Annual rent: $1.5 million. The SEC’s rent is $318,000 per year for its headquarters in Birmingham, Ala.

* The SEC’s distribution to each member school during the last reported tax year: $41 million. Big Ten: $37 million. The Pac-12: $31 million.

* The SEC office spent $788,000 on travel expenses in the last reported fiscal year. The Pac-12 spent $3.1 million in the same reporting period.

* SEC commissioner Greg Sankey’s salary: $1.9 million. Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany: $2.4 million. Scott’s salary: $4.8 million, more than any conference commissioner and more than any Pac-12 football coach. By comparison, every SEC head coach is paid more than Sankey.
2680443, thought experiment: who gets the #4 spot if this happens?
Posted by brown sugar, Sat Dec-01-18 04:16 AM
Alabama wins.
Northwestern wins.
Texas wins.

It's gotta be Washington right? 3 losses, but back-to-back
weeks of toppling top 20 teams and a conference championship?
Maybe Texas? No way Georgia gets in and plays Alabama in
back-to-back games, right?
2680451, what is the point of rematching uga and bama
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Dec-01-18 09:55 AM
> No way Georgia gets in and plays Alabama in
>back-to-back games, right?

under ANY circumstances?

this is their postseason match today. loser goes home.
2680454, agreed...fuck a rematch
Posted by guru0509, Sat Dec-01-18 10:14 AM
it was stupid when ppl were clamoring for one when osu beat michigan in 2006, and its stupid now.

NO two loss team deserves to be in the playoff. even if it is to the best Bama team of all time blah blah blah

and fuck michigan even more for letting this notre dame team skate by all season without a loss on their record.

i watched 2 ND games this year and that team is garbaaaahj.

OU would hang 100 on them, and that's not even hyperbole.

2680452, the pac game last night was some depressing shit
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Dec-01-18 09:56 AM
that stadium might have been 15% full.

the product on the field was dreadful.

washington needs to pray for a NW upset today cause they'll get ROLLED by mich or osu.
2680534, yeah man
Posted by HecticHavoc, Sat Dec-01-18 07:59 PM
worst commissioner in P5. have a game in the middle of fucking nowhere California.

having the game at a college stadium has always worked. guy is a fucking idiot
2680547, at 5pm during weekday traffic haha

but for sure the nail in the coffin is 5 oclock on a friday in california.
2680472, all I know is I want Oklahoma in
Posted by will_5198, Sat Dec-01-18 11:41 AM
OU and Riley's offense is a lot more fun to watch without Baker Mayfield (The Rodney Harrison of quarterbacks) and Mike Stoops

Riley vs. Saban please
2680481, then again, that defense
Posted by will_5198, Sat Dec-01-18 12:44 PM
Per ESPN:

"After that opening possession, the Sooners have allowed their opponents to score a TD on 38 of 44 red-zone drives this season (86 percent) -- the highest, or worst, rate in the entire FBS."

It's a new-age of defensive statistics but JFC...you might as well put the extra point team on once they get inside the 20.
2680486, I’d love the explanation to defer
Posted by Ceej, Sat Dec-01-18 01:13 PM
2680495, Maybe onside kicks become part of the strategy?
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sat Dec-01-18 02:31 PM
a well placed one of those got Sean Payton and his mediocre but turnover forcing defense a Super Bowl win.
2680487, and watch bama hang 80 on 'em?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Dec-01-18 01:26 PM
meh
2680488, well this is an ugly showing so far
Posted by will_5198, Sat Dec-01-18 01:29 PM
but to me, Oklahoma is the best offense that bama could play

and I want to see what Riley could come up with against Saban
2680492, you'd rather see riley instead of the urban cam?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Dec-01-18 02:24 PM
cmon!
2680490, Penalties just killed Texas.

2680493, the no-call false start on 4th down for OU was ridiculous

a texas win here is bad for business
2680507, blatantly obvious who the Big 12 wanted to win this game

2680695, As opposed to the pro-Texas reffing in the Shootout?
Posted by B9, Mon Dec-03-18 09:02 AM
I don't think there is any "pro" whoever with Big12 officiating; they are all just arbitrarily horrible.
2680494, are either of these teams actually trying to rush the passer?

2680540, RE: that midfield fake punt was on some epically dumb shit
Posted by nipsey, Sat Dec-01-18 08:29 PM
The FIRST question to Kirby Smart in the press conference BETTER be, "Why did you go for a fake punt in a tied ball game, with less than four minutes remaining, on the 50 yard line on 4th and 11? Why coach? I'll hang up and listen."
2680542, please let this big10 chip be close
Posted by HecticHavoc, Sat Dec-01-18 08:42 PM
missed all the early games -- Clemson is going to be a blowout. GIVE ME A CLOSE GAME TO WATCH PLEASE
2680543, Ohio State back to giving up 70-yard touchdowns

2680581, so who gets the #4 spot?
Posted by brown sugar, Sun Dec-02-18 01:31 AM
I'd be okay with either OSU or Oklahoma. UGA would be
ridiculous. Gun to my head, as much as I hate to say it,
and despite all of their flaws, I gotta go Bucks.
2680585, if we dont get in thats fine bc that Purdue loss is just unacceptable
Posted by guru0509, Sun Dec-02-18 02:48 AM
watching Notre Dame get destroyed by Clemson, UGA and Alabama would be a decent consolation prize though
2680590, didn't you say above that you didnt want a rematch?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Dec-02-18 09:11 AM
>UGA and Alabama
>would be a decent consolation prize though

they're not getting in anyway. they'd have to blow the system up after that.
2680625, i just wanted a third game w clemson & dabo

this season was such a let down
2680630, 12-1 big 10 champ and a mich ass kicking...cmon.
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Dec-02-18 04:26 PM

>this season was such a let down

it was a VERY weird season and frustrating on a variety of levels but we're entering really spoiled territory by calling this season a let down.
2680591, seems like its oklahoma
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Dec-02-18 09:19 AM
cause they were ranked higher in the initial polls which we are now a slave to.

yes we have a rather moronic system here.

and expanding a moronic system to 8 teams doesn't make a system any less moronic. they need to change the underlying philosophy of their decision making process for this to ever work.
2680600, it's all subjective anyway
Posted by will_5198, Sun Dec-02-18 11:22 AM
100+ teams all playing different schedules and barely any common opponents.

and why are Oklahoma and Ohio State ranked to begin with? based on their recent history (which objectively has nothing to do with the team they field this year).

when it was the BCS there was a big to-do about the third team. now it's a big to-do about the fifth team. there's a big to-do about the 69th team in the NCAA tournament, and all the top teams bitch about their seeding. I don't ever see some kind of ironclad system.

*however*...the postseason intrigue is part of what has elevated the sport to national prominence. just part of CFB now.
2680694, RE: it's all subjective anyway

>and why are Oklahoma and Ohio State ranked to begin with?

which is why these rankings should not be released so early in the season.

>*however*...the postseason intrigue is part of what has
>elevated the sport to national prominence. just part of CFB

I don't think the popularity of cfb should be used to justify what is now a completely illogical and corrupt selection process. It's not going to be *perfect* but it can be MUCH better then the shit show we have now.
2680592, Realign the ACC already. Coastal div. is a joke

2680619, Maybe half a decade ago....it’s a new day in that regard
Posted by DJR, Sun Dec-02-18 02:55 PM
We don’t have stupid coaches trying to play meathead ball anymore.

It’s not a new day in that the Coastal hasn’t won the title game since 2010 and most of the games aren’t close.

This isn’t about Syracuse or Georgia Tech, it’s about balancing the divisions better so 5 loss teams stop winning the coastal.
2680620, UGA over OSU in the rankings?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Dec-02-18 03:04 PM
blow this shit up. it sucks.
2680635, yeah that's dumb
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sun Dec-02-18 04:39 PM

I am tired of the naked propaganda. I expect noted SEC cheerleaders like Clay Travis, Peter Burns, and Paul Finebaum to promote their base and have the pompoms out in full force. However, when Kirk Herbstreit says UGA should be #3 based on a close loss, it's disgusting. He just looks like a shill for ESPN's relationship with the SEC network and a conflict of interest. I noticed it was calculated that he said #3 as well so UGA and Alabama wouldn't meet in the first round. UGA has two good wins, over UF and UK, and was blown off the field by LSU. Nothing special and doesn't move the needle with an extra loss. They should have traded out Austin Peay, UMass, or Middle Tennessee for a strong P5 school to give their schedule some weight. Georgia Bulldogs and resume don't belong. Part of this is pushing the narrative that '18 Alabama is the best ever so UGA's "close loss" LOL counts for something. Nonsense,'95 Nebraska, '01 Miami, and '04 USC are better off of the top of my head in my lifetime.
2680643, and if total losses don't matter then why isn't LSU ranked ahead of uga?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Dec-02-18 05:29 PM
>and was blown off the field by
>LSU.

they set a really bad precedent with this
2680639, why does this feel like Florida/Michigan's 100th bowl game
Posted by HecticHavoc, Sun Dec-02-18 04:58 PM
but some fun matchups. UCF vs LSU is intriguing
2680641, they just played to open 2017 too
Posted by will_5198, Sun Dec-02-18 05:03 PM
- Washington-Ohio State is interesting just because it's strength on strength (UDub secondary against Haskins)

- Texas vs. Georgia is nice and blue-bloody
2680645, meh. OSU has already smashed a pac team last year
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Dec-02-18 05:31 PM
>- Washington-Ohio State is interesting just because it's
>strength on strength (UDub secondary against Haskins)

why not put UGA vs OSU and settle it on the field?

it would be the best bowl matchup (playoffs included) by far.
2680647, well, your conference loves the Rose Bowl.
Posted by will_5198, Sun Dec-02-18 05:33 PM
>why not put UGA vs OSU and settle it on the field?
>
>it would be the best bowl matchup (playoffs included) by far.

main reason it took this long to have a BCS in the first place. I agree it'd be a great match-up though (I'd take Georgia because they are balanced).
2680646, harbaugh is happy
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Dec-02-18 05:32 PM
UF is the only team he can beat
