2670815, Let's discuss KD ≥ Kobe
Posted by melmag, Thu Aug-16-18 10:14 AM
too soon?? I think not

If he's not better already, he's at least Kobe equal

And truthfully, the only edge Kobe might have at this point is longevity.

As a scorer, perhaps there hasn't been a more natural scorer in league history imo, coupled with his length & agility.. man its a no brainer!!

defensively, KD has blossomed

As usual, the "rings argument" clouds everything but yo

-KD first 10 yrs >>> Kobe first 10 imo

-2 alpharings

-1 MVP each

2670820, KD himself wouldnt (and didnt) even broach this.

if you giving KD some damn "alpha rings" after joining that team, that should completely dead the "kobe was riding shaq" narrative. if KD got 2 alpha rings, Kobe has 5

can't have it both ways. if you discredit Kobe's first 3 for having help, how are you gonna give KD those 2?

But now a lot of people are taking him down, there is a sound argument for KD over him and I have seen people saying "Harden is what Kobe fans thought Kobe was." I dunno if I'd go that far but I get the argument. The thing I will say about Kobe is that he was competitive AF, even among guys who would all sacrifice and cheat to win even an insignificant competition. The guy had fire and that definitely put him above some guys with similar or even higher talent levels (e.g. McGrady, Vince).
2687353, Harden is known for averaging 57 turnovers per game in elimination games

Who the hell is talking about Harden>Kobe?

His best chance went out the window last year when the real best player on that team pulled his hammie.

2670936, Is Durant better than Dirk
Posted by COOLEHMAGAZINE, Fri Aug-17-18 01:30 PM
Serious question.

And I hate Dirk. But I don't know if Durant wins a title with that Dallas team…maybe…all the chips would have to fall right, which they did for Dirk. And he would have to ball out, like Dirk did.

2671013, We actually know the answer to this question....
Posted by DJ Wade-O, Sat Aug-18-18 04:27 PM
KD faced the team that Dirk beat the next year (The Heatles) with Westbrook and Harden and lost. Just saying.

All of KD's accomplishments after leaving OKC don't count. It's hard to put him over legends because he joined the winningest team in regular season history coming off an unprecedented finals collapse.

Alpharings?? Name another NBA superstar IN THEIR PRIME (c) Lebatard that couldn't win two "alpharings" by joining their respective conference NBA finals representative. Go ahead and name them.

KD gotta join a young team on the come up like the Lakers, Suns, Jazz, etc. before we start counting his accomplishments in comparison to hall of famers.

2687971, to address both of these
Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Feb-15-19 12:36 PM
forget '12-13, that was a disaster in a series of last ditch efforts to keep the Lakers in the conversation

they had '08, '09, and '10 to capitalize on the post-Shaq years of Kobe and came through.

and though Kobe threatened to leave, Lakers showed resolve as an org.
Kobe was carrying the bags of Smush Parker in those past-Shaq years.

he single handedly kept that team relevant and they finally got him some help to return the favor.

KD is basically Kobe w/a team full of SHAQ right now

he still has time to be Dirk or '08-10 Kobe

also re: Shaq. Kobe was right. when he left the Lakers it was a slow roll to a fall off a cliff into journeyman status. Doesn't erase his Orlando/late '90s Lakers greatness but still... it works both ways

the '06 Heat was him doing with Wade what Kobe was (allegedly) doing with Shaq.
2687984, old and slow with no chemistry or depth and a coach who was a poor fit
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-15-19 01:10 PM
Kobe got that team to the playoffs by himself.

Nash was completely washed and hurt, Pau was misused and wasted, and Dwight was a hoe and a shell of himself.
2687991, and on this point
Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Feb-15-19 01:40 PM
>and Dwight was a hoe and a shell of himself.

he was pissing off PAU GASOL in the process. who does that? LOL
2687349, Wait we're giving KD two alpha rings now?
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Feb-10-19 07:18 PM
lol, i mean i guess he was the main guy in some sense or at least the finals mvp but that seems like a stretch of the definition.

i'll indulge this argument though. kd is more efficient, deeper range, better shooting over people (something kobe was really good at), has an adequate handle for what he needs to do, has good foot work (though i'd still say kobe's was better), is a better catch-and-shoot player, doesn't crave the ball to be effective and is a better rebounder. his defense has gotten better over time, kobe's got better and then dropped off (he got a lot of honors on reputation). i think kobe has had the better career but that may not be true in the end. taking both guys from day one, i would take kd, not much question in my mind.
2687839, Well, at least he didn’t steal an MVP from a more deserving teammate...

both are on the top 5 cringe team of the past 20 years for sure. kobe still takes the mvp trophy here by far tho.
