2663879, KG in Minny, AD in NO...that's the difference Posted by bentagain, Tue Jun-19-18 11:17 AM
Once in a generation talents...that didn't and probably won't achieve the team success that Timmay did in SAS
do you see it?
The spurs way during Timmay's career and after was...next man up, team first, identifying talent that worked in that system.
It worked during Timmay's career to establish the dynasty...as the roster flipped from the admiral and the general...to top 5 and GINOBLI...
do you see it?
Mario Elie Malik Rose Monty Williams Danny Ferry Bruce Bowen Steve Kerr
^^^guys that were readily available to the league, and had careers before SAS, but weren't exactly coveted players
fit the spurs way
do you see it?
When guys went down with injury...next man up
Corey Joseph Patty Mills and now Dejaunte Murray
the spurs way identifies players that other teams could have had, but for whatever reason, didn't value as much
and that is how they got Kawhi to begin with
the spurs way made George Hill a viable trade candidate for Kawhi on draft night
he flourished in the spurs way system AND they identified a franchise player in Kawhi
so when Timmay retired...the spurs way had another potentially once in a generation talent...to keep the engine running
they haven't missed the playoffs in what...20 years...even without their best player
how many teams make the playoffs without their best player?
and like I said, that reload made it to the WCF last year when Kawhi was healthy
that is the spurs way
of course you need the talent, but we've seen entire careers squandered...so to say it was all Duncan is false.
