I'm serious.

Have fun, y'all.

2655923, Let's see if Brett Brown keeps his job
Posted by The Real, Fri May-11-18 10:35 AM
Because that dude made ZERO adjustments.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2656014, He made them late but he made them.
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri May-11-18 03:41 PM
Game 4 he definitely made adjustments on both ends of the floor (going inside more on offense--let's not forget Jim O'Brien's chucking ass is there--plus defending the perimeter better and adjusting Simmons' role and minutes).

I wouldn't be mad if Brown got canned but I think he will get one more year. He definitely went from comfortable AF to on the hot seat, much like Casey did. Casey had a sweep last year working against him, a rocky relationship with his not-signed-long-term star and the idea that he basically thinks he has to wait out LeBron's departure to really compete (which is true) working against him. Still seems fucked up but not exactly out of nowhere.
2656150, I'm not clued into Philly's fan base but isn't a firing really extreme?
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Sat May-12-18 05:48 PM
The team went from under 40 wins to 53 and won a playoff series. They're at least one year ahead of schedule and for a team that hadn't had ANY success, have seemed to create a good culture.

I get it that he kind of wet the bed as far as his adjustments but to me he's earned at least another couple of cracks at it.

Even Mark Jackson had two playoff runs before he got axed, right?
2655918, the game is the game

Posted by Numba_33, Fri May-11-18 10:35 AM
It's never good to see a black man join the unemployment line. I expected him to at least last until the start of next season. It's pretty obvious Toronto flamed out badly, but that's pretty terrible for dude to get canned so quickly.

Out of curiosity, outside of the dude that fleeced the Knicks twice a while back, do the Raptors have one else of color in the front office?
2655936, RE: Wow.
Posted by Nodima, Fri May-11-18 11:05 AM
Their top three personnel people are Nigerian (Ujiri, President), Black (Embry, Senior Advisor) and Hawaiian (Webster, GM).

I woulda wanted him gone too.

Back-to-back sweeps…not just that they lost to Cavs, but the sweeps, and the fact that the team clearly was mentally and physically checked out at the end...

He is a good coach but the team is done after that.

Totally different style of coach from Thibs who wore out both his welcome and his players…but at a certain point it became clear that Bulls team had peaked, and were never going to get over that hump.

At that point you wish everybody well and send them on their way. Players too.
2655942, yeah, the more I thought about it...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri May-11-18 11:15 AM
I kinda expected it. Looks like they went with the players over the coach...I wonder if that means Derozan is back?
2655938, this was expected. if they were more competitive he prolly keeps his job

That's really it.

You can't all come back next year and look each other in the face and pretend you believe in each other anymore.

It shouldn't be anything personal. Casey a good coach but what is even the point in coming back unless they ship out everyone who quit on you.
2655949, the bright side: long term this is good for Casey
Posted by bshelly, Fri May-11-18 11:29 AM
he's an obvious fall guy here. I'm not even sure this one is primarily about racism but business. Really hard to sell season tickets with the same doomed cast coming back (although choosing the black head coach as the guy to go is not NOT racist).

But back to Casey. He's leaving Toronto at their absolute apex. No coach is going to do better with this talent than he did, and the talent is aging, so it's very likely the team is immediately much worse next year. There's zero doubt in my mind he gets another shot within 12 months. if he had stuck around to preside over the raptors demise, i'm not sure he would have.
2655963, I wouldn’t be surprised if he never gets another HC job.

2655950, LOL, if Bron goes West
Posted by bentagain, Fri May-11-18 11:31 AM
Why make any long term decisions before you know where Bron is playing next season?

Dude has ruined franchises and careers.
2655951, us and Boston will be better than the Raptors next year too
Posted by bshelly, Fri May-11-18 11:32 AM
edit: Kinda think Boston wins the East even if Bron stays in Cleveland next year.

Bron goes west

Doesn't make sense

Are they delusional enough to think they can win a chip by changing HCs = creates more questions than it answers.
2655957, not really
Posted by bshelly, Fri May-11-18 11:44 AM
derozan and lowry just aren't good enough. casey did an amazing job getting the team to be as good as he did with those two, but those two were never getting a team over the hump.
2655961, Right...if anything, Casey coached em up
Posted by bentagain, Fri May-11-18 12:05 PM
Those guys fold like lawn chairs every year.

I just don't see how firing Casey is the answer to a talent issue

I'd be inclined to blow up the roster and let Casey coach up the new guys

LOL@We Are The North

Wasn't that fun...Drake tears

2655996, That's my question...what exactly is over?
Posted by bentagain, Fri May-11-18 03:01 PM
Nobody has come out of the east in the last 7 years...

If a number 1 seed

and an increase in Ws every year under Casey wasn't enough

What exactly did they think they had?

No sleep lost for me

Just trying to understand the logic

2656015, Bron has beaten Boston more in the East than the Raptors
Posted by Vex_id, Fri May-11-18 03:46 PM
why the double-standard that Casey must go and it's all his fault? We don't do that to other coaches for top teams in the East.

Bron has put every franchise in transition

Except the one he plays for.

While not completely drastic, the Cavaliers have gone through changes while LeBron's been with them; from the David Blatt firing to the whole madness with the trades with this season. Heightened expectations hit teams LeBron plays against and personnel he plays with as well.
2655960, This would have been like the Knicks firing Riley in 92-93
Posted by auragin_boi, Fri May-11-18 12:04 PM
after they lost to the Bulls for the 3rd yr in a row.

He won 60 games with that team which was the 2nd best in the league (just like Tor winning 59 which was second to Hou).

The year after, MJ retires, Knicks go to the finals and lose.

Toronto might have had an opportunity next year if Bron leaves Cle and goes west (though Boston and to a less extent Philly would have been huge hurdles).

I think they gave up on him a yr too early. Sometimes it's just that ONE guy holding you back from getting there.

Did they get swept twice in a row?

Does the name Duane Casey got the same amount of weight as Riley's did then?

Let's not compare apples to oranges. Casey a good coach, his work with this team, and this team itself, is done.
2655981, Cavs after this season, please.

2655985, Sucks. But he'll have another head coach job soon
Posted by mrhood75, Fri May-11-18 01:38 PM
I'm sure Detroit would snap him up in a sec if he wanted to go there.

And if any other position open up soon, he'll be at the top of the list.
2655992, Nothing but respect for Casey
Posted by dgonsh, Fri May-11-18 02:21 PM
He took this rapscallion group of kids and rejects and turned them into a perennial regular season juggernaut. and then...lebron.

people will talk about the 59 wins, but this team should have won 63 or 64. their last month or two of the regular season shower real regression defensively and a return to bad habits. they limped (maybe too harsh, but they didn't soar) to 59 wins. that bled into the playoffs. just like it did the previous year, and the year before that (when they got SWEPT by the wizards in round one and people were calling for Caseys head then).

You can simultaneously praise him for the sum of his parts, the regular season success, while simultaneously acknowledging that at some point the raptors are a great regular season team, and a poor playoff team. It took virtually ALL the games vs Brooklyn, Indiana and Miami in order to get embarrassed by LeBron. This team NEVER made it easy on themselves in the playoffs. Forget make it easy,...they actively would regress and STRUGGLE to wins in the playoffs. DeMar and Kyle aren't fakers. They are all stars, but they've never competently shown up in the playoffs for extended periods. You can't have a sophomore Bench Mob if the All Stars force the bench to carry all that weight.

I love Casey. I think if he can make great teams exceptional. But he couldn't make a great team play like even themselves in the playoffs. Time to respectfully say our thank you's and move on to a different approach.
2656074, Nah, sorry but y'all ain't that
Posted by J_Stew, Sat May-12-18 02:40 AM
teams that go 63-19 or better are historically great teams. You went 40-12 in conference, beating up on a lot of mediocre to horrible teams. Love wasn't himself most of the year for whatever reason (injuries, Isaiah Thomas team cancer, etc) but he's dialed in now. No way your "Portland Trailblazers +" style team was better than the greatest player of this era + a focused, healthy Love. You should never fire a coach whose team is on an upswing. The Rockets gonna fire Pringles when the Warriors beat them in 5???
2656043, I wish Casey well.
Posted by B.J.S.301, Fri May-11-18 06:29 PM
I hope this ain't the kiss of death for his coaching career.
2656046, He didn't win the NBA coach of the year award

Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat May-12-18 02:49 PM
Lotta factors here and this gives him an opportunity to find a situation with more upside. The Raptors reached the peak of what they could achieve. If he ends up in Milwaukee, hey, that's a better deal for all involved parties, mainly Casey and the Bucks. If he ends up in some shithole job like Sacramento or Phoenix, then it's business as usual for black coaches getting dogged out.

they bring in some college buttnugget (Izzo) and takes the credit. we know what's happening
2663005, i actually think Beilein was their best option THIS year
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Jun-13-18 12:36 PM
before Beilein's name was in the mix tho, i wanted someone younger. Stackhouse was my #1, but id have been thrilled with Ime Udoka or Becky Hammon.

Casey is just meh to me. This roster, if healthy, was going to make the playoffs either way (record with Reggie Jackson this year projected to 3 seed) and its annoying that they hired a guy who has a track record of "just ok" in the postseason. Id have preferred an unknown with a ceiling, rather than a vet with a high floor.

still think they should have let Stan have his last year to make a stand with the roster he built, but oh well. we shall see.
2663003, he said he wants to expand Blake's game...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jun-13-18 12:31 PM
out past the three-point line. Give him point-forward responsibilities...hmmm, but Reggie...
2663006, im not sure how to take that
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Jun-13-18 12:43 PM
healthy Reggie doesnt need to be playing off ball and i want more offense thru Drummond, not less.

i actually think focusing Blake's role would be more beneficial than expanding it.
