the quality of centers that wilt faced was much higher than what the majority of great centers faced, for example throughout the entire decade of the 2000s (shaq, d12 in his prime, et al). he was playing bill russell, nate thurmond, willis reed and later even kareem and in some cases he was facing them TWELVE times a year as opposed to the two meetings that guys like robinson and ewing had during the year even the position had real depth during the 90s.

wilt played a very strong quality of competition in terms of both individuals who played the center position and the teams he faced. you had the celtics with seven or eight HOF players in a given year. you had the knicks with stacked rosters at times. cinci had two HOF'ers, the Lakers had West and Baylor plus a formidable supporting cast. there weren't as many good players in the world but there only needed to be half as many because of how few teams there were.
