2655330, Scoring a basketball is the biggest responsibility in team sports
Posted by Basaglia, Wed May-09-18 01:12 PM

and the most grueling.

The 2-6 hitters SHARE the responsibility for manufacturing the bulk of runs.

An elite pitcher can still save them if they manage to mess it up.

Wings, centers, forwards in Hockey/Soccer all share the scoring load.

Great goalie can save them.

A running game and a beast defense can save a bum QB.

A beast QB can save a bum defense.

But there is nothing like a #1 option in basketball throwing up trash and having subpar numbers. It's the loneliest thing I see in sports. They be getting FRIED.

Just putting that out there...because it's frying season. And somebody bout to come up REAL REAL REAL short.

And I'mma be here.
2655336, hockey goalie imo, but i support this post
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed May-09-18 01:34 PM
2655338, yeah, agreed on both counts
Posted by thejerseytornado, Wed May-09-18 01:39 PM
was trying to think if a soccer position could qualify, but goalie is less frequently tested compared to hockey and strikers get to miss more frequently than a basketball player.

you think we playing chess, but i'm playing mad-making. Basaglia
2655342, Yup, you can only contribute 1 thing as a goalie
Posted by Y2Flound, Wed May-09-18 02:05 PM
If you are bad your team is going to lose.

If you are off for the night you cant make up for it any other way. Even an NBA shooter going cold can still play some lockdown D, draw a few fouls on a star, set up a few baskets etc...
2655341, not turning the football over in big college games or in NFL games
Posted by Tiger Woods, Wed May-09-18 02:00 PM

that, to me, is paramount to any other obligation in any sport. You can put together a balanced 8 minute drive, gaining momentum, and like THAT it's over if you turn the ball over.

Now, without question, basketball is the hardest sport to be really good at and most definitely the hardest to succeed at consistently at an elite level.
2655344, So, who are you referencing?
Posted by Ryan M, Wed May-09-18 02:12 PM
It can't be Harden. That's your guy.
It can't be Durant. You're not an idiot.
It can't be anyone on the Celtics because nobody is their #1 option.
It can't be Lebron. See: Durant, Kevin.
2655366, whoever comes up short
Posted by Basaglia, Wed May-09-18 03:21 PM
2655368, given his angry, irrational hatred of LeBron - gotta be him.
Posted by Vex_id, Wed May-09-18 03:26 PM
it's a wild development to see Bags all of a sudden aligned with the Ultimate Worriers - fantasizing about KD "skullfucking" < (real, actual quote).

But alas - there's immense sadness and hurt in the world.

I'm optimistic: everything's going to be ok.

-->
2655371, Can't be. Lebron leading scorer in the playoffs by miles.

2655397, Right - but that assumes we're dealing with logic & reason

2655373, Given how the original post was framed
Posted by Numba_33, Wed May-09-18 03:33 PM
I thought the post was questioning people doing the frying, not the #1 option that's going to come up short in these upcoming conference finals.
2655370, Pitching, but they play too infrequently.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Wed May-09-18 03:28 PM

That is the one beautiful thing about baseball:

It's the one sport where you can hand someone the ball
and they can basically not give that shit up, sit
everyone's ass down, by themselves, relying on little
else but excellence.

So pitching is the winner. But I agree with you,
because pitchers play too infrequently to compete
with an NBA schedule

2655374, right, I guess if an Ace pitched 3 times in a 7-game series
Posted by pretentious username, Wed May-09-18 03:37 PM
but that's pretty rare so I'll put the basketball star over that. Hockey Goalie may take it though.
2655390, yeah, single games in baseball are largely irrelevant
Posted by thejerseytornado, Wed May-09-18 05:28 PM
until you get to the playoffs, but then the ace is only out there for, at most, 3 games (likely two). In those games they matter more, but does that make up for the complete lack of relevance to the majority of the games played?

it's why they never win MVP.

2655392, game-to-game baseball is pretty random too.
Posted by pretentious username, Wed May-09-18 05:44 PM
One day everyone on your team is hitting and the next day they're all swinging at air. Doesn't matter who the pitcher is in either of those cases. Also even in a 7-game series the momentum swings don't feel as crazy or unsurmountable as they do in basketball, partially cause homefield advantage doesn't mean as much.
2655380, Well of course a duke fan has to take this position
Posted by bshelly, Wed May-09-18 04:12 PM
Given that, you know, Duke players can score and do nothing else.
2655383, That's the new Anti-Duke take!?!? Hmm. I like that.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Wed May-09-18 04:41 PM

2655384, 1
Posted by Basaglia, Wed May-09-18 04:44 PM
2655387, interesting point - but Rodney Hood apparently can't do anything
Posted by Vex_id, Wed May-09-18 04:54 PM
-Chapel Hill shrug-

-->
2655394, I’m not saying they all do it well
Posted by bshelly, Wed May-09-18 05:53 PM
But the new Duke prototype—Jabari, Kyrie, Tatum, Jah, Hood, Bagley—is one dimensional gunners.
2655398, so dumb lol
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed May-09-18 06:32 PM
2655403, Except not
Posted by bshelly, Wed May-09-18 06:49 PM
Find one dude in there who plays D or sets his teammates up.
2655419, Kyrie's 30+ assist rate agrees with me
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed May-09-18 08:34 PM
as does Tatum's of 15+ in the playoffs

also what about Tatum's slash line says "gunner"? hes a future 50/40/90 candidate

and Tyus Jones is a person who is alive also

most of yall are terrible at hating because you have to lie to do it. real hate flows from a place of cherry-picked honesty, not fantastical whims of fancy.
2655451, all facts here:

2655401, lmfao, Tatum is one dimensional gunning against the 76ers right now?

2655404, Tatum is better than the normal dukie, I grant.
Posted by bshelly, Wed May-09-18 06:51 PM
Which means he’s able to adequately play defense on our fourth best player. That’s like the Duke version of Ben Wallace,
2655487, better than the best cameroonian and 15th best australian, too
Posted by Basaglia, Wed May-09-18 10:38 PM
2655402, man, you have officially jumped the shark, now...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed May-09-18 06:49 PM
Tatum been lockin down more than a few of your guys over the last week.
2655405, I jumped the shark in like 2007 dude. Keep up.

2655391, also: loneliest moment is definitely penalty shooter in soccer
Posted by thejerseytornado, Wed May-09-18 05:29 PM
but that's only one moment and rare.
