Pierce always had a complex about not being considered a top tier talent amongst the likes of Kobe, AI, Bron,T-Mac, etc.. so he's always played with a chip on his shoulder and it also whats driven him his entire career.

And yes, he's secretly envious of Kobe especially, being that LA is his hometown and he wishes he starred there under the glitzy lights. I say all this as a long time observer and big fan of his, but its quite obvious lol
